I have so much material here for essays that I often wind up publishing them months after the events happened. This is one of those essays, however after having a day and night filled with all weather imaginable (snow, rain, thunderstorm, sleet, hail, and freezing rain - all at once!) I realized that we need some color, and perhaps, you do too.
So, come along with me, on this beautiful photographic stroll through Pewitt's Nest - One of the treasures that resides hidden in Wisconsin.
Pewitt's Nest has been the subject of a previous essay - with photos from my then trusty HP Photosmart camera (now my husband's camera) Unfortunately, I no longer have those photos due to a malfunction with that media card that caused all the photos (over 500!) to be lost on the card. :(
So, this was my attempt to somewhat replace those shots - with a better camera.
Pewitt's Nest is a Wisconsin State area. It's a small path through a well-covered trail that leads to a beautiful waterfall. You can either go near the water's edge or up over the top of it (though there is no fence to stop one from falling several feet down)
Pewitt's is one of the few golden strolls I've seen where almost every tree is this beautiful golden yellow hue.

The tree I saw a woodpecker in last year. Of course he was absent this time. I guess he didn't know we were coming. ;)

I'm amazed at the PINK color of this tree. Yes, it really was pink in color.

The rock's edge painted with fallen leaves from the pink tree.

A trail up the hill. There's several different ways up there.

A rock face hidden in the back of the woods.

Looking up toward a trail that goes up over the top of the waterfall.

This is looking up the hill that goes up over the top of the waterfalls.

We didn't go there this time, though. Instead we went on to the water's edge.
The edge of the water. There was a lot of damage done here after the spring 2008 flooding, so it's a lot wider where the water flows now.

But it's still beautiful and peaceful.

This used to be all water before the floods. Now you can see there's less water and a rocky area to the right.

Looking toward the waterfall.

and toward the rocky face.

And back to the car again. But not before taking a few shots of the road and a farm across the street from Pewitt's.

Hopefully this stroll added some much needed color to your world, as it did mine. Soon there will be spring foliage and colors all around us, but not soon enough!
All photos taken Fall 2008 (I forgot to change the year on my copyright stamp - whoops!) With my Canon Powershot A560 camera. No editing has been done to these aside from the copyrights.
