The Most Beautiful Bird

Yesterday evening as I sat out on the deck I saw him. The most beautiful little bird. Even prettier than the gold fenches that arrive by the droves.

This guy has a brillant  turquoise head and a reddish breast, with dark and white stripes on his wings. His belly is white. There he was at my feeder and I have never seen one like him before. Not in the feather so to speak.

I looked him up in a couple of my birdfield guides and he is a Lazuli Bunting a western version of an Indigo Bunting

The following pictures were taken through my dining room window and  two are not real focused.

Now isn't he a pretty sucker ??

Oh what a wonderful gift! I have recorded Lazuli Buntings for two years on May 1st so I am hoping tomorrow he will arrive in West central TX.

Just like Shirley Temple, you found the blue bird in your own back yard! Did he have his long-johns on? I suppose when it finally warms up, it will be so bloody hot we can't stand it, eh?

Wow..it was lucky for you to get a shot of this guy! He is a beautiful bird. My dad saw a bird in his backyard that was vivid blue. The fur looked almost like feathers.

Beautiful bird and we've never seen any kind of bunting here in Connecticut. Maybe they don't come here? We do feed the birds all the time though, it's great to watch them.

ah, gorgeous. This is almost certainly a Lazuli Bunting, indiginous to your area. Here's a link... to a photo. Spot on, I think.

That is one excellent bird. I've never seen one with turquoise on it. Such a pretty one.
