Exploring Nature, playing around with Macro photography

Well believe it or not I just recently realized that I had a setting on my camera for Macro. 

I saw the little flower icon, but never new what it was, then I finally figured it out when I was looking in the manual for my mothers old digital that she gave me.

I felt pretty stupid that I never new that I had a setting just for Macro..  But I started playing around with the setting a bit.

I used two different cameras for these a Nikon coolpix 2100, and a Fujifilm A345. 

 

Here are a few of my first Macro photos taken in my backyard using the macro setting:

a chrysalis:

 

a wasp on passionflower:

caterpillars:

a butterfly/moth: not sure what this is called, it had a tail that you can't see in this pic:

A bee on an orange blossom from our tree:

Macro settings are wonderful! :) I use mine for pictures of small indoor things, but these outdoor shots are great!

There are some cute and interesting bugs here! Great essay. Isn't macro fun? It's one of the modes I can't imagine living without (my first camera didn't have a macro either)

Great photo essay of macro shots, Amanda. It took me forever to figure out I had a macro setting on my old camera. Like three years! LOL I've been wanting to play around with my macro setting and see what I can come up with too. I saw a lady on here do a photo essay of macro shots of ice and it was pretty cool.

Very nice. Fun imagesa and a good article! Yes it's always a good thing to read the manual! By the way, your macro has a minimum focus distance that you should be aware of. This is the closest you can get before it becomes out of focus. In the first two photos above, for example, you can see that the camera focused on things beyond your main subject. In the first, the curly stems are in focus; in the second, some leaves beyond the flower and insect are in focus. So check, or experiment, to see how close you can really get.

I'm back from the Dominican Republic and it's snowing here in Ontario. I wish I could be still lying around on the beach, by the pool or eating and drinking and taking photos.

Thats great. I love Macro setting. I did the exact same thing when I got my new camera. Flowers, bugs, and even food up close. Really neat.
