Thought I'd update everyone on my eternal attempts at getting that bird shot. If you check out my first photo essay about trying to capture a decent bird image, you'll see I am getting a bit better (though no where near Sue!). I know now what I need to do. I need to get the birds down lower to the ground instead of up in these Bradford pear trees! I have plans on getting more birdfeeders (with a larger variety of food) and getting some of those feeders that you put on the long pole in the ground. We'll see how that works. At least these birds aren't mockingbirds!! That's a start right there! I was beginning to think mockingbirds were all that we were going to have around here anymore.
I first saw the female cardinal. She wouldn't get in a better position for a good photo; kept those small branches between us. When I tried to get closer she flew to another tree farther away. Thus, these were the best shots I could get of her. Not great, but she has neat markings.

The male cardinal was in the tree next to her. Did you know that cardinals mate for life? I worked on getting a shot of him next.

I think he was telling me to leave him and his woman alone in this next shot.

Captured him scratching his head in this next shot.

The kids and I came inside shortly after taking these shots. Sometime later Parker came into the living room telling me that there was a bird outside his window and wanting me to come look. I did, and there was another cardinal. Parker and I grabbed our cameras and started taking shots out his window when I got these shots.

Haley brought her camera in and wanted to get some pictures of the bird. Parker refused to let her take pictures through his window, so she and I moved into her bedroom and took a few shots out her window.

So there you have it - my latest bird shots. Nothing spectacular, but they're improving. At least the lighting was right this time.
