My family is pretty traditional when it comes to Thanksgiving. I know some people that eat non-traditional dishes and meats for this dinner. Some even have potlucks. So give us some of your recipes or ideas. Traditional vs Non-traditioal
So my question is: What are you having for Thanksgiving?

Turkey with stuffing inside (that's my favorite way of having the stuffing)
mashed potatoes and turkey gravy (made from the turkey drippings)
green beans
macaroni and cheese
corn
homemade rolls or bread (usually rolls)
cranberry sauce
pumpkin pie with whipped cream
chocolate raspberry cheesecake
If it is just me we will have turkey and salmon. If a vegan is present we will have turkey adn she is bringing a fake turkey that she loves.
We will also have sweet potato casserole (my favorite with no butter, but lots of brown sugar and walnut topping), steamed green beans with rosemary, mashed potatoes, cranberry salad (homemade), quinoa with spices and chopped veggies, and a pumpkin mousse desert.
Tropical Thanksgiving
I like a new product, Freshtables, and got some free coupons for them in the mail so I plan to use those for their butternut squash in a yummy cinnamon sauce, truly easy and delicious.
Of course, it won't be a SQUASH based meal. We'll have the turkey, my mother's perfect cranberry sauce, homemade, with some orange rind in it, mashed potatoes, greens, stuffing...the whole nine yards.
I most always fix the following.....
traditional turkey
traditional ham
one pot roast with carrots and potatoes
beef and noodles
scallopped corn
green bean casserole
dressed up baked beans
cheesey potatoe casserole
stuffing, in and out of the turkey
mashed potatoes and gravy
salad
beef and cream cheese rollup and cheese tray
crescent rolls
strawberry pie
pecan pie
pumpkin pie
some kind of cake
platter full of homemade cookies, fudge, and rocky roads
I think that's it.... and believe it or not, there's usually JUST enough for everybody to take a plate home and my family only get one more meal outta of it.
Oh and this is the same meal I fix for Christmas Dinner also. So it's pretty traditional for us.
Now I have come to realize there is more out there that can make the holiday special.
So keep those unique recipes coming.
Paula that does sound like a whole lot of cooking, when do youstart cooking for the president. lol

I work on the evening shift at the hospital and we alternate holidays that we work each year. I am off on Thanksgiving this year so we won't have to rush and eat.
Jane, I would love the recipie for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with rum sauce, sounds wonderful.
We'll have turkey, dressing, gravy, yams with marshmallows and pineapple chunks, portefino (grape) jello salad with nuts, mallows and cranberries, green beans, homemade rolls, and lots of desserts like pumpkin pie with whipped cream, apple pie, pecan pie, and chocolate pudding pie with meringue. MMMMMMMMMM ; D
I would LOVE the following recipes:
Cranberry Pear Chutney from Barbara M.
Watergate Salad from Willma M.
Cheesy Potatoe Casserole from Paula Love
Corn Pudding from Alison
Sticky Toffee Pudding with rum sauce AND butternut squash with yummy cinnamon sauce, from Jane
and
something tropical from Sonia M. in hawaii
In exchange I will send each of you a special recipe from my family to yours.
Fair trade? Thanks in advance!
Turkey roasted on a bed of root veggies (which makes a good base for gravy)
pecan stuffing inside the bird and enough for a casserole for my vegetarian daughter
gravy made from the pan drippings including all the roasted veggies mashed in, plus a little curry powder
baked yams, served plain with butter (no casserole, no marshmallows, no sugar)
homemade cranberry sauce (made with whole berries, not jellied)
homemade cranberry-orange relish
Brussels sprouts with butter and chopped roasted chestnuts
green beans steamed with butter
A casserole of Italian bread, spinach, brie, Parmesan and other ingredients, from an Emiril Lagasse recipe (I'll send it to anyone who wants it)
A casserole made of mashed rutabagas whipped with eggs, cream, salt, pepper and cinnamon and baked till brown on top (MANDATORY! say my kids and their families)
pecan pie (MANDATORY! says my grandson)
pumpkin pie with whipped cream
the usual beverages
Sometimes one son-in-law will bake an apple pie or two, just because it tastes good
Yes, it's a lot of cooking but I do nearly all the prep work and casseroles in advance over a week's time and finish it all off Thanksgiving day. We have lots of leftovers, which we munch on for most of the weekend, and then my other son-in-law makes his famous red sauce and homemade spaghetti.

Cranberry Pear Chutney
1 12 oz bag of cranberries ½ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
½ cup raisins 2 pears, peeled and chopped
2 teaspoons freshly grated lemon zest ¼ cup minced peeled fresh gingerroot
½ teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes 1 cup chopped onion
¼ cup cider vinegar 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/8 teaspoon salt
In a heavy saucepan combine the cranberries, brown sugar, raisins, pears, zest, gingerroot, red pepper flakes, onion, vinegar, mustard seed and salt and simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally, for 20 to 25 minutes or until the berries have burst.
The chutney keeps covered and chilled for 2 weeks. Serve the Chutney at room temperature.
You asked for my "recipe" for sticky toffee pudding with rum sauce. I do have one but my family told me the truth and that is this: the best, absolute best, sticky toffee pudding is here: http://www.stickytoffeepudding.com/
and if you want to read my review, it is here: Sticky Toffee Pudding
Oh, I hope that link works!
I should warn you, get it early. Last year, they ran out. Also, one package plus sauce (and the sauce is a necessity) will serve maybe 4-6 people. It IS rich but one son can eat a whole package himself. It keeps in the freezer for months if you wish and you just defrost it, already cooked! Serve warm for best results. It won't last, people snap it up! The sauce is just heavenly!
You don't have to have read the book. Any question you have about basic rules of investing the author learned, why he wrote the book, would be much appreciated!
:)
I wonder why the first link worked and the other did not?

I meant to thank you yesterday but I was on Vicodin and feeling pretty out of it. I broke a bone in my foot somehow, just from walking, I think. I must have stepped wrong somehow, very weird.
Large Philidelphia cream cheese softened and whipped with mixer, add large lime jello, dry. can of crushed pineapple, large cottage cheese, large cream whip, package of pecans, chopped. Mixed well and chilled. it is so good.
