My daughter will be taking swimming lessons!

No one in my family knows how to swim so I decided to start with the youngest with swimming lessons.  I wanted her to start the first of June but they are all booked up, they have 6 children per class for 2 weeks for $40.  I went today and all they had was June 29th - July 9th and I was told that some children learn on their first lesson, and my daughter has no idea about swimming.  She might need to go for 4 weeks to get it down.

Do any of you have children that don't know how to swim or yourself and if so, how long did it take them/you?

great idea.. my dad's ideas of teaching us how to swim was throwing us in the pond.. you either sank or swam!

I can't remember when i learned to swim. I grew up on the beach.

That is awesome Carolyn. My son's do not know how to swim yet. Roshane is on his second week of swim classes with school (they get 10 x 30 minutes). I will be very surprised if he has learned it by the end of this week, but his teacher is telling us that he is doing great, so maybe there is hope.

I am hoping to be able to get both of the boys swimming by the end of the summer. It has been so tough with Roshane, because although he loved the water he was scared of making the attempt. Sky on the other hand has been swimming like a fish with his wings on, so I hope that it will be easier with him.

I learned how to swin very young, 5 I think. We had a neighborhood pool and I took lessons.

I was pretty young when I learned how to swim. I taught my daughter and my son how to swim.

My kids started swimming lessons at age 4. My brother and I learned to swim young because we spent so much time at the lake but neither of us had any formal lessons.

I don't have children but I remember taking swimming lesson from the YWCA when I was a kid. They must have taught me well because I've been swimming ever since. Your daughter will have fun..

I learned on my own when I was about 11. My 10 year old daughter learned last year!! I think it is very important to learn to swim! Everyone should know how!
