It being Valentine's Day, and having consumed an inappropriate amount of chocolate, I am now finding myself in a very romantic mood. Nothing says romance like good music...you know, love songs that you just shouldn't listen to alone.
I'm no expert...but that still doesn't stop me from sharing my opinion as though it's fact. Here's my top romantic song of all time...and, before, you ask it is by Barry Manilow.
Somewhere in the Night by Barry Manilow
This is an oldie, so some of you may not remember it. It was a top ten around 1979. Here's a sampling of the chorus:
"You're my song
Music to Magic to End
I'll Play You Over and Over Again
Loving so Warm
Moving so Right
Closing my Eyes and Feeling the Light
We'll Just go on Burning Brigh
Somewhere in the Night"
Who can argue with those lyrics?
You can listen to it here:
Somewhere in the Night
It's a hard choice. "Weekend in New England" and "Could It Be Magic" were contenders. In fact, "Could it be Magic" was played at my wedding as my mother and mother-in-law were seated. Hubby didn't want any Barry Manilow at my wedding. He's a metal fan and thought if there was Manilow, there should be metal. (So much for it being the bride's day.) Like what metal song would you play at a wedding? Maybe "Every Rose Has Its Thorn?" Please! He didn't even realize it had been played until a guest commented that she knew I would play Barry Manilow at my wedding as she was going through the receiving line.
"Open Arms" by Journey is another contender. And "Unchained Medley" ranks up there, too.
So, what's your choice for most romantic song? Do you and your SO have a "song."
