Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Are family vacations a thing of the past? With gas prices at or near $4 a gallon in some parts of the country, you certainly might think twice before planning a classic road trip. But would flying your family to Wally World really be better for the planet than piling into the family car? How much do you really know about the greenest way to get away?
Take our "How Green Is My Getaway?" quiz -- you might be surprised.

As far as our family vacations, Elliott and I are at my parents' house right now, while my husband is in Texas. He will be back next week, and we will be staying a little more than another week, so I guess that qualifies as a vacation. We drove down, because not only is it the greenest way to travel for us, it's also the cheapest. The Air Force paid for everything this way, too, since my husband is in Texas for training. If he had decided to fly, they wouldn't have paid for tickets for Elliott and me anyway.
Seriously, family vacations can be a bike ride picnic to the local park.
I am rich in memories and to me that is the most important aspect of life!
great post
I don't know if we will be taking a LOT of trips, but I plan to take a trip in June to west Virginia which we found out should only take like 3 tanks of gas! Most of which will be E85!
Drove all the way to Gulfport Mississippi before we stopped. Could have goten farther if we hadnt gotten stuck on that seemed like 25 mile long bridge in Louisanna over the swamp. a wreck and blinding rain too. I enjoyed the trip other than that.
I know that we were planning on driving to Las Vegas this year, but changed our mind and bought cheap airline tix for only $219 per person. Still a lot for 7 people, but when you factor in hw much gas would have been, plus hotel costs on a road trip like that, we made out better!
60-80 points: Don't Get Derailed
You're chugging right along, but read on to stay on the right track.
We had so many crazy adventures...like the time a tornado almost lifted our RV off the ground outside of Houston, and the time we carried an injured Loggerhead Sea Turtle in the back of our car 27 miles up the beach to the turtle lab at Padre Island! We traveled from Virginia to Arizona, spending as much as 5 months in one location depending on what we felt our intuition was telling us.
It was an amazing opportunity to re-weave our connections to each other, drop out of what society expected of us, and solidify our family. Our story can be found at www.berrytrip.us, and a short version of the tale was just published in Jack Canfield's new Law of Attraction book!
