This really bothers me - Upper Marlboro and Prince George's County in Maryland are taking over 2300 parents to court over Immunizations. 800 are due in court later this week I believe to face a do it or else case. Basically you have to have you child Immunizations or else they don't get to go to school.
This ticks me off, while I have decided to have my children immunized I don't think the government should have any right in telling me I have to. I think this is completely outrageous! I know some parents are worried about the way shots are made, and some about the metals contained within them. So they have made an educated decision to with hold shots, and now this.
Where are our rights as parents? Seriously, it doesn't matter if you are for or against any of the following, the point is the government says we can, can't or have to on all of these.
- Booster seats
- shots
- spanking
- schooling (but only if they have their shots)
- and many more
What's next? Forcing us to breast feed? Telling us what brands are best to buy for our child therefor we can only buy that brand? Telling us how to dress our kids? That we have to instill some form of religion?
And they justify it by saying it's best for the child. Says who? Why not give us the information and let us decide what works best for our children, after all no two are the same.
I think it's all about money, not the welfare of children and it pisses me off.
Am I the only one?
Do you think the government should force you to give your children shots?
Do you think they are already controlling too much as it is?
Don't you think there are better things they could be doing with this time and money?
PS I know there are some parents that need to be told these things, but I think if this is the battle then there are serious other problems that need to be addressed before these.

What better way to spend time and money than for the protection of children?
I also don't think that your slippery-slope argument works either. This is a health issue.
After contracting whooping cough (Pertussis) as a pregnant adult, I understand a little better. I know exactly HOW sick I was and I was sick for months...what would happen if an epidemic broke out of any of these diseases? I don't think our medical community could handle it. Besides, it is a health issue. I can understand if someone doesn't want to give the chicken pox (varicella) shot...chicken pox only kill about 5 kids a year...but polo has been pretty deadly, also crippling.
I don't know where you are but you can't go to school without it in most states now.
Actually you are incorrect. Prince Georges County has a surplus of money right now.
I did have all my children get their shots. I understand how awful a disease outbreak is and home schooling your children or sending them to private school is no guarantee that without the shots they won't get a dreaded disease either. Germs are everywhere a child goes, not only at school. My mother was germophobic because of the polio outbreak. It is only common sense that to get everyone immunized. But knowing your childs life might be changed or gone forever is a hard choice. Yes, the odds are very low but how do you live with yourself?
I refused to allow them to take amniotic fluid when I was pregnant. I didn't want anything taken lest some finger or toe cells were accidentally removed. The risk to find out if anything was wrong seemed to great. If there was a problem, I would have still keep my baby anyway. (This was the last one and she is perfect and 13 now)
I did have some female issues in 2003 and the doctor thought it best I get a hysterectomy. There were things that could have turned cancerous and I was happy they did this in time. I do not regret it for one minute.
My daughter is 13 and I intend to look into the shot. Too bad there is no shot for aids.
"Am I the only one?" No. You're not.
"Do you think the government should force you to give your children shots?"
absolutely NOT.
"Do you think they are already controlling too much as it is?"
yep. I'm not feeling like digging for a link right now but I recently read an article about a parents who refused a PKU and they were in danger of losing custody of their newborn because of it. Scary.
"Don't you think there are better things they could be doing with this time and money?" definitely.
Even though the mercury-laden preservative is supposed to have been phased out of vaccines, some still have it, like the flu shot. And anyone who wants to can dig around on the CDC site and find the ingredients in the shots. One of the new HPV shots is cultured on bug DNA. Ok, right there is where my ick factor kicks in. Even if they could guarantee it guarded against ALL types of HPV (it doesn't, it only covers a very, very few, therefore, it can't reliably protect you), even if I wasn't uncomfortable with how fast they pushed it through (without adequate testing, possibly, trying to beat the release of their competitor's version), I can't comfortably accept an injection of bug dna nor any of many other ingredients in vaccines.
This, of course, doesn't even go into the fact that many of us have been vaccinated for MMR (repeatedly) and had it not take. So even vaccinated, and having taken the risks that are very real every time you get a vaccine (including possible death), you still are not necessarily immune to what you got the shot for.
Autism is a troubling question we don't have adequate answers to, either. One thing I've heard several doctors say is that genetics loads the gun and environment pulls the trigger - so maybe a case of a heavy metal reaction (the mercury preservative) or maybe our bodies being overloaded with diseases to deal with all at once (the way vaccines are bundled and injected close together in time, trying to get all major vaccines in before the child is two out of concern for parents stopping bringing them in for well-child checks, the way I heard it), something seems to be going on and should at least be independently looked at and nothing forced until we have an answer. The Lilly Rider makes me nervous, it looks guilty and screams coverup, imo. I think most parents calling for caution and wanting this looked into just really want answers and to know their kids will be safe.
Anyone who thinks the gov't doesn't test on us and has our best interests at heart hasn't been paying attention.
Plus if they are going to enforce shots, why not the one for cervial cancer? OHHH because that's an STD and no one's child is ever going to have sex. It's a public health issue too. So that argurment doesn't work either.
Fact is this - the government has too much say in what we as parents have to and can do. Pisses me off.
Actually you are incorrect. Prince Georges County has a surplus of money right now.
Chris E - I meant overall government telling us what we have to do is about money. This is more wide spread than just PGC they are just the one in the spotlight.
Do you think you should go to jail for this? Isn't that a bit extreme???? PLUS
Public health, if your child has gotten the shot then there is no risk to yours if mine doesn't. (which mine has) But it's a risk that parent's take, if you get the shots you won't have a problem. Public Health arugment no more crediable than mine.
Again I believe in tell parents all the information and letting them decide, can anyone say they are not smart enough to make that choice? That they have to let the government decide for them?! Thats really the question.
Are parents smart enough? Are you? Aren't you offended that they think you aren't?
Yes government has WAY too much say in our lives
Yes My kids are vaccinated (all the reccomended ones)
Yes I will see if the Guardisil shot is for my daughter, my mom died of cervical cancer and if I can protect her from it I will.
As I have said nobody is forcing anyone to get the shots if you do not want to then you have to find another place for your children to go to school other then public schools.
PAY IT FORWARD
