How Would You Feel About Post Office Cuts?

Would you mind if the Post Office cut Saturday delivery?  I wouldn't.  I know they have to make cuts, but how and where the cuts are made is the importance.

I hope there will not be layoffs there.

I hate Saturday mail.  I wouldn't mind no Friday mail either.  No one works on Friday or Saturday as far as I can tell so, if bad news comes on either day, we just have to wait until Monday anyway.

What's your take?

If they have to cut a day, I would pick Sat. too.
I actually love getting mail & would be disappointed. Sunday is long enough not receiving mail but adding a Saturday too?? It'd kill me! lmao. I know I sound like such a loser but I sign up for all the freebies & stuff so it's just exciting to me to get some cool stuff in the mail. Especially if i'm having a bad morning & I get something in the mail it can just help give me that boost of excitement.

I have no problems with them cutting a day of mail delivery - the bills can wait one more day.

wouldn't matter to me, I remember when they delievered mail on Sunday too., holidays they delievered it twice a day.

No delivery is fine, if they ever concentrate on quality service. Mail pickup could cause a pinch on occasion.

Canada has not had Saturday mail in years, if ever. The PO is suffering, because a lot of communication is via internet or phone, or fax. We will ALWAYS need a letter carrier, but not as much as in previous decades.

I agree that they should have cut Saturdays a while ago. I'd be fine with no mail on Fridays. I can't deal with any of it until Monday anyway.

It doesn't bother me having them take the weekend off. I can wait for Monday...then, maybe, I'd actually get more than junk mail and bills.

We don t get our mail on SAturday until 3 anyways, give the workers a break and just go 5 days

They can cut the Saturdays...we never seem to get that much on that day..but Mondays seems we get tons.

I never get around to checking the mail. If they drop it off a couple of times a week, I'd be okay.

Mail is the highlight of my day, itxs the only thing that is different everyday, how about getting mail on sunday too, i am voting for that:)

I use the postal system a LOT - I mail out about 10 books a week and receive two or three. If there's no mail delivery on Saturday, there'll be double on Monday! How does that help the postal employees.
Now if we could REALLY get rid of the junk mail... but that's probably what's paying for the postal service that we have now.

They've been talking about doing this for awhile. When I originally read about it they were talking about cutting Tuesdays (if memory is serving me correctly. I know it was a weekday).

Yep. I was remembering correct. Whew! Never know with my swiss cheese brain.

Tuesday is their lightest volume day, no Saturday like most of us would guess.

here in my state the two big citiy are losing offices,, not days,,

The impact would be minimal. I don't receive mail every day Monday thru Saturday anyway.
The biggest problem for me would be the two days in a row with no delivery. If a deadline for getting a letter somewhere landed on a Sunday, that would make two fewer days in which to get it there (like bill payments, for example).

On a different, but related, topic: now, if only we could get the post office to establish standard sizes for bulk (junk) mail and charge much higher rates for parcels that don't conform.

I would just be worried if I got a time-sensitive mailer (or I was sending one) that if there were no mail delivery on Friday, Saturday or Sunday that I would get it too late (or it would get there too late) and I'd be in trouble.
I would prefer another day, like Melanie mentioned above.

And speaking of mail, once again I'm not getting the mail I should be getting. Someone else was already given two of my mail items a few weeks ago and they decided one wasn't worth keeping and returned it, but they kept the other one (I don't know who it was, I missed them by a second). And again yesterday I was missing something. Either my great mail carrier is messing up more and more these days or someone has taken a liking to my mailbox and I need to stand guard from now on.

Since the Post Office is tax payer supported and failing mightily in direct competition with private delivery firms, any cutbacks to its services will mean more, not less cost to the taxpayers in the end. Saturday delivery is needed to at least partially offset private delivery companies much faster delivery and sometimes cheaper prices.

Scale their pay/benefits/retirement back to private sector levels especially as they are salaried and not hourly wage employees. The union would scream but improving or continuing services would mean they might be able to compete more efficiently.

If they need to cut a day I would not mind. Usually I get the mail every day but now that I am 7 months pregnant it is more like every other day. Unless I am expecting something good to come. LOL
