Has anyone noticed the attacks if you disagree with Obama's policies?  My daughter read one group of comments on here and got so upset.  You know the folks that hit in packs, and then drive-by? I told her to thank the trolls for giving me comments as lately, they are hard to come by. 

I'm just writing and raving here, but I'm generally pleased on Gather as I feel after two and half years here, I know most of you, and what you think.  Occassionally, I'm surprised by a thought process that is not knee jerk, but the blind hatred some people have on here is amazing.

If you follow my posts, you know who my detractors are.  It's a badge of courage I proudly wear, and usually my daughter is on here so little that  I don't care, and even if she is, she reads what trolls are, and learns from it.

What makes this country great are the differing opinions.  I personally, never delete a comment no matter how lacking in intelligence it is.  "For if it weren't for the stupid people, where would we be?"  That's a direct quote from my dead grandmother.

LOL. Yeah, I have to agree.... since I comment and view more than I post, and the rewards for that have recently dropped considerably, I was pleasantly surprised when one of my recent posts attracted a plether of trolls that give me more points then I had made in the previous 2 weeks!!

i just thinks some over react,, not only here yet media,
yes we dont agree with obama or we do,, yet, it is his job and I wouldnt want it for the life of me.. I am proud he stand his ground,, and now this will be misread,,, LOL

I receive from 25-40 e-mails a day regarding new posts on Gather. I read all the e-mails, less than half of the posts, and comment on only one or two. No matter what you say in a comment someone will try and categorize you as a Dem/GOP, liberal/conservative, Christian/Jew/Catholic/Agnostic, or use any of several other titles. It really gets old after a while.

I get attacked for upholding the founding father's principles for crying out loud. One person said I was hateful. I don't think I'm hateful. Quite the opposite actually. We went to a Grassroots meeting today and I bought another copy of "The 5000 Year Leap" by W. Cleon Skausen. I just got back from the library where I donated the copy since they didn't have a copy in the catalogue. I'm generous to a fault actually, since it was my husband who actually earned the money to buy it...but, I'm a very frugal person when it comes to buying new clothes. I may buy three tops every other year or so and they are usually under twenty dollars each. So, I figure I have earned something to donate to the education of people. He's getting on board, too, I have to say. He's a great guy! Thanks for the place for me to have my little rant about somebody calling me hateful. :-)

Hey, Barbara, I absolutely LOVE to read! Oftentimes, I may have 3 or 4 books going at the same time.....I'm not kidding! I just wrote down that book and the author and I will buy it...I'm also going to buy "Catastrophe," by Dick Morris.....I've heard it's absolutely fantastic!
Right now I'm reading "Common Sense" by Glenn Beck........it's excellent! Mr. Beck writes very well!

That's what I do. I rarely read one book at a time. If people believed in the Constitution, and they really read it, they'd label it too.

I have Common Sense by Glenn Beck laying on the sofa. I read a bit of the first chapter last night and it is definitely easy reading and a good page turner!

There's stupid everywhere. I've been on LiveJournal for almost 8 years. I belong to a community who points out the stupid. Some of it is very shocking.

I used to comment on political stuff on here, but oh my gosh, the venomous hatred and utter nastiness......it was unbelievable.........it's just incredible to read how full of anger and hatred some people are...........very scary.....I just told myself, enough......I don't need/want to be involved with any of them.......so, for quite awhile, I've just totally ignored anything to do with politics, and I'm much happier that way.
I just go about my business, posting great deals/refunds/fun recipes from my huge personal collection, and maybe some movie/book reviews as well. I do not need, nor want, anger, hatred, vulgarity, and viciousness in my life.

I still feel compelled to post my political thoughts online here in Gather. I get beat up, bloodied (not literally) and sometimes I have angst over what someone said to me. But, I still have to fight the good fight and stand up for what I believe. I try not to put rocks in my pillow by saying something mean and hateful to anyone. If they take it that way, then it's the way they are thinking of me and that's a reflection of them. That's my take anyway.

There is a mean spirited nature on the part of some people on Gather. I’m really trying to be nice here, but the term hypocrite comes to mind. What I mean by that is that there is a tendency to use racial, gender based, religious and other derogatory forms of personal attack and slander at the person making the argument for the opposition, while at the same time calling the opponent a bigot. Most of these types of people are of the same general political persuasion as the current administration.

We know who they are. I won't comment on their posts or join their game, as I wouldn't give them the time of day. Someone who disagrees respectfully, is fine, but childish name calling is beyond me.

Carol, your years of experience on Gather and your comment that you know what I think excites my curiosity. What do I think? You pick the issue and tell me my position on it. If the issue is a current problem, what is my solution, if any?

I always like having people disagree with me when it makes me look at an issue from another viewpoint but I do not like the pure hatred that can come from overly biased mentally bankrupt people who can only see one side, even if it's the wrong.

I encourage debate, not hate.

If it weren't for all those stupid people, I'd have a lot less relatives.
We wouldn't need to expand our highways, because there'd be a lot less drivers on the road.
Recently I seem to do something stupid at least every week or two. Maybe I'm joining the group..

All fun aside, you don't have to be stupid to be rude. Unmannerly people come in all intellects. For whatever reason, rude people seem to thrive on the Internet. It's a real shame that you or anyone else has to suffer these people who contribute nothing to any discussion.

I stay away from the political posts. Just because I don't feel I am knowledgeable about politics. However, if there was something that I did understand I would most definitely comment on it.

All I can say is that what a world this would be if we all thought alike. There would be no diversity in the world. I do not think it is right for people to bash others for the way they think or feel. It may be a bad day for someone, it could have been the way something was said to someone or the way it was explained (or scolded) to them. That is why we have freedom of speach, so that we can all express what we think. That does not me I am right and you are wrong. It also does not mean you are right and I am wrong. I don't know why people just can't agree to disagree. Imagine what a would this would be if everyone liked and thought the same way.........boring.

Yeah - I think that's pretty par for the course when it comes to politics. Some people are just so emotionally charged over it, they'll attack like rabid dogs if you express a dissenting opinion. All I can say is, at least you get Gather points for the flames, right? :-)
