I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. . .
Luke 18:14
Daycare matinee-
The Pharisee
and
the Publican
Albeit distilled
For the
Honeybears
But Scripture plays in any house
"Has anyone
Done
Something
Wrong
This morning?"
5 year old Pharisees
Shake their heads no
in unison,
Shifting the blame deftly,
Clinging, already, to
A nascent Self-righteousness.
"My sister hit me!"
"Max took my toy."
"I didn't try to do it."
"No Bears, I'm asking about you - have you done anything wrong?"
Again heads shake a no,
Fig leaves firmly in place;
But, just then,
The Holy Spirit flutters
And lands on Jake's shoulder,
And pricks his heart.
"Uh, uh. . . once I. . .I
I hit my friend with my
Backpack.
I hurt him."
Vacant stare;
The incident is playing out
Again in those
Wide saucers.
Now they are gleaming, brimming;
I thought his little heart was breaking
As his lip started to shake
And his shoulders heaved.
Hot, salty lashes;
Mary shifted over
To comfort him.
Don't worry little buddy;
Those tears will
Trade like diamonds
In heaven.
Go away, justified,
Honey.
