Social Security and SSI update...

Hello my friends! Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. Unfortunately, I have gotten the letters I was told I would probably get, rejecting my social security claim. They say that, while it is clear that I cannot continue in my current vocation, or any of my past jobs, there are "other jobs I should be able to do". Of course, they didn't offer any suggestions for a job I could do, or where to start. I still haven't heard from my retirement disability from my job. I know that they do not have any grade 6 jobs I am qualified to hold that I can still do. I am hoping they will kick in while I am still trying to get disability. Even if they do, I need to get the disability, or my retirement will be dropped to under 1000 monthly at age 65. I would rather save it and have more left at 65, since cost of living goes up, and never down. Initially, I ended up in bed and depressed, but the good news is that I was able to shake it off with the help of my family. It is still there, but not overwhelming at the moment. I should hear from the retirement part with my employer within another month. God will see us through.

Sorry to hear that you Social Security claim was rejected. Crossing fingers and praying the the news from the disability from your job will be better.

That would be really frustrating to be told that there are other jobs you should be able to do when they don't bother to offer suggestions.

I have never heard of anyone ever being accepted as disabled the first time they apply for benefits.

What Spencer said is true. ask for a hearing. They typically go up too 3 times in rejection. My suggestion is to hire an attorney and fight the decision. We did and it took 2 years but ultimately we won. The attorneys that take these cases do not take payment unless they win and then they take a percentage that is allowed by law. What is nice though is you get all the benefits that you are entitled to going all the way back to the day you became disabled does not matter if you receiving disability payments during this time. Please do not give up and fight this decision.
I think they always deny on the first time. My Mom had terminal cancer & they denied her - she had to have back-up information from the Cancer Center & then she was approved with back=pay to the date she was diagnosed.

Turn you down twice then you get a lawyer - they did it to me - they do it to everyone.

Get a lawyer after the first turndown. It's all part of the whole system. When I was told to get SSDI (I didn't, by the way), I was told it would take approximately two years including turn-down and appeals.

Gee Whiz, appeal, appeal, appeal. They do this as they figure many will give up and they save money. Appeal, appeal, appeal!

Fight it! How in the heck do they expect you to do anything when you can't drive and can't stand up without a dizzy spell. I think they think they weed out the fakers who fool doctors by doing this. You are entitled, you paid for it and you deserve it. Turn that disappointment into determination girl! Don't let them rob you of thousands!

When my older son was in elementary school I got a letter saying they wanted to end his speech therapy. They said lisping didn't affect him. How nice. I fought back and we both wound up spending a whole day talking to people and for evaluations. We had to go through this whole circus to just get continued speech for him. Everyone agree it was ridiculous to think it didn't affect him. We won and he got the continued speech. He has no lisp at all now and you would never had known.

Thank you all for your support. I know that many do not get approved the first time. Missy was an exception rather then the rule. I have already talked to my aunt and gotten the name of the person who helped her get her disability. I will be calling her today to see what we can do.

Because of the hassle, my husband put off filing for any kind of Social Security
until he was 62. He worked with a compressed spine for 8 years. Not fair!

I agree with everyone else about appealing that decision. I'm not sure WHY they disallow obvious disabilities but I have heard it happens very frequently. Kind of discouraging for people who truly have a problem, such as you. Good luck on the continued fight!

Don't give up! Resubmit and resubmit. See if you can get a pro bono lawyer to help you.

I was turned down for 17 years, I didnt appeal or fight it. Each time I started over. It was just an act of God that I was at the right place at the right time, to get the help I needed. Then it didnt take long. About 5 months to get help. It was when there was no light at the end of the tunnel. God knew the time I would need the help He planned it perfectly.

The majority of the time you will be denied, especially if you have income coming into the household. If you do research on the computer it will tell you, the easiest way of getting disability is if you are poor or ( and it lists a couple of life threatening diseases) but most of the time, you have to have more than one disease. Such as diabetes and another one, example, possibly high blood pressure, Just an example, as I cant remember what other one they used but diabetes was one .... Keep trying I have a friend who received it her first try, due to her having some kind of problem with diabetes, but she had no income in her household......
