Holiday Season is just about here. In my family that is Thanksgiving and Christmas. Lots of cooking and lots of secrets and surprises! What holidays do you celebrate? What are your family's special tradition? Please share recipes as well as stories!
Growing up, my mom always made chestnut stuffing for Thanksgiving. She had the patience of a saint to peel all those chestnuts! I can't say that I do, so in my household it became apple walnut stuffing. My kids insist on it every year! Also the cranberry sauce must be home made.
Christmas morning my kids, youngest of the crew is 20, still look forward to the silly trinkets filling their stockings. They have taken to playing Santa themselves and now there is a stocking with "Mom" on it.
I would love to hear about all different holidays and your family's unique way of celebrating
One thing we always make is Grandma Lucy's Green Jello Stuff! For lack of a better name, that is what we call it!
1 box lime jello
1 package cream cheese
1/2 C or so coarsly chopped walnuts
1 can (15 oz I think) crushed pineapple, drained
mix jello according to box (ie, 2 cups water total) then mix with cream cheese with mixer or blender on low. pour into large bowl, add nuts and pineapple, little stir, chill. Looks horrible! Tastes yummy! This is a sweet side dish we serve with dinner, for every holiday!
