Last week, when we went to Ormond Beach, the seas were really rough, and the red flag was out, signifying rip currents, I was really impressed by the power of the ocean.
This week the seas were not as rough. There was a yellow flag flying at the Ormond Beach Life Guard shack.
We had a good time stopping by the Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, while we were checking out the gardens, one thing we noticed was a snake, picture included. The snake kind of smelled, or maybe he defecated nearby and that was what was smelling up the immediate surroundings of the snake, but there were some other cool animals, a few lizards we saw, and some big Grass Carp, which eat plants.
While we were at the Gardens Visitor center, we saw something where back in 1979, there was a momement to "Save Our Rocks" and money was raised, and the land was bought, so that development would not happen at the place were some neat rock formations were at. See the picture of me above near the rocks at the beach.
I wish I had the camera the other day when the ocean was rough, but I suppose that there might be another chance.
The qualities of the beach at Flagler are different. The "sand" is composed of tiny shell pieces. Daytona Beach has hard packed beach, cars usually drive on parts.

good article..
Man and boy I spent most of my life in that area and was PART of the 'save out rocks' bunch as well as a 'Son of the Beaches' protestor of fees to drive on Daytonas beaches..
There used to be a big campground at the rocks (which are A GOOD 30 miles north of Ormond by the way), is it still there?
Washington Oaks is lovely too.
Glad to see this.
hit "return" to move the text under the pictures-- the system is pretty bad and really hard to work with effectively, but don't give up because this was very nice.
I'm pretty sure that the black snake was just a non-poisonous variety.
more images of my trip. Nice Florida, not many people in my pictures.
There was a wedding at Washington Gardens State Park, earlier. They did the vows by the ocean, and there were chairs set up by the gardens area as well. It must've been a nice wedding.
I only see the pic of you and one of a line.
Landen, I guess that's what this was for us. Maybe it was only about 6 hours of driving, maybe slightly more. It felt good to get out of town. spending money on gas for us was kind of nice, we didn't spend alot on other stuff.
We did have lunch at Cracker Barrel, and we had dinner at Ponderosa, which was extremely disappointing. After not eating much at Ponderosa on International Drive (kissimmee), we kept saying how we could have done better by stopping at several places.
For lunch I had a Bacon and Grilled Cheese Sandwich. My wife had the Chicken Salad Sandwich.
Today for Dinner, I had, from Jason's Deli (a chain, I'm pretty sure) a Smoked Turkey and Pepper Jack Cheese Paninni Sandwich.
i really felt i was there
the snake captured my attention, they are such facinating creatures,
you must be brave though, i would run ...
the beach is beautiful
This is funny that you mention Ormond, Flagler and Daytona beach - we lived less than 15 minutes from Flagler beach for around 4 years, then we missed home so much, we just sold the house and came back to Connecticut. When you have lunch down there next time, try Snack Jacks, on Flagler Beach - friendly and good food.
There's another beach between Ormond and Flagler that the name's not coming to me right now, but if the tide isn't in, you can drive all over that one too- when the tide starts coming in, get your car out of there!
And don't worry about getting shots of rough waves - they're usually rough out at Flagler and around there, as surfing's really much more popular than swimming is in that part. Thanks for the memories ;)
