Our lives don't offer straight and level trails
though we would love a steady, even plane.
While wishing order, chaos oft prevails.
And who on earth can keep from knowing pain?
We humans, social creatures, through and through,
can be so anti-social; this is sure.
We're made for love and seek connection true,
but fear and such won't let our bond endure.
Discord and harmony, each takes its turn.
A time of peace is followed by distress.
Upon each other we must lean, and learn
to let supportive hands upon us press.
At last, the Source is our true help and shield.
To Love Eternal, let us turn and yield.

Blessings and best wishes - S.
Emme, you have surely found a way that is helpful for you in the midst of setbacks, suffering or hardship. Thank you for your words.
Ann, you are so right. These lines condense broad difficulties and the help desired in mean reapresentative lines. The realities are so hard, tough to endure and challenging to face.
Thankd you for your well read perspective and the offering of reflections.
fear "won't let our bond endure."
Fear rather than selfishness is my issue.
Terry: You are on to something quite insightful. I made an edit..."selfishness" to "fear and such", because like you mention from your own experience, I believe with others that fear is the root of so many things that thwart the good in life and in society. Fear spawns, selfishness, hatred, bigotry, objectification, suspicion. Thanks for your keen observation.
Barbra now uncanny you should mention what you do about the musical terms. I almost titled this piece, Dissonance and Concord, to give a paralell with the juxtaposition of "discord and harmony. Thank you for commenting so generously.

We say we want the smooth path, even knowing it is not best for us.
We grow most when challanged, as you state in your words: "Upon each other we must lean, and learn / to let supportive hands upon us press."
It seems to be all in the connections we make, and the balance we achieve together.
Thank you for these words.
