Welcome all Poetry Please members and anyone who should find this poem.
"We . . . are no petty people. We are one of the great stocks of Burke; we are the people of Swift, the people of Emmet, the people of Parnell. We have created most of the modern literature of this country. We have created the best of its political intelligence."
William Butler Yeats
Ancestry (Acrostic)
Ancestry, heritage and last
Name are bequeathed by a father to his
Children and can be
Either a bane or boon.
So I was blessed
To inherit Irish ancestry yet able to
Relegate my ambiguous surname to
Yearbooks and birth certificate by saying vows.
