Poetry Collaborations

The subject of collaborating with one or more people on some of the prompts has come up.  I have no objection, in fact it sounds like a lot of fun, although I'd like collaborations to be limited to prompts that have been designated as collaboration challenges. 

 What do you all think?

Yes I agree Tracey. I have been participating in one that Maggie Blue has posted today and a lot of people are obviously not reading her article correctly and giving her a real headache I'm sure! If you intend to participate, please check what is required first. In Maggie's case she is diligently trying to create a thoughtful collaboration and those of us wanting to be a part of it are confused by some of the comments posted.
It is a lot different to a game. I'd love to see you do one Tracey, you always come up with excellent prompts!

I disagree Dean, if you go into it with an open mind and read carefully what others have written it can result in a wonderful piece. Tracey and I are collaborating (hopefully soon with others) on a story that takes us into new and unimagined possibilities and really raises the bar on what to expect from yourself.

I tend to agree with Dean, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun and enjoyable. I would welcome this as an opportunity to try and think in a direction not normally my own.
I think it isa great idea.
The blending of two could really be wonderful!
There are novels and biographys that I know have done this

Chica! I am in. Sounds like fun...and I love to play. Sounds like "the poetry telephone game..."
Might want to be tight initially, with spelling out the rules so we all play "according to Tracey" instead of Hoyle.
I hope we start with the renga???

I think it would be fun, if the two are really into it. Are you talking about posting a line and then "everyone steps in"? If you want serious, you will have to make that apparant so it is "taken" serious. I do agree the mind has it's road map in poetry. But the attempt to meld might turn out ok. Ellen B

I have poetically (and otherwise) collaborated with others and enjoyed the process. In some instances, it was very 'instantaneous' and 'on the fly'.

Thank you all so very much for your input. I think what we would start out with would be a prompt that everyone knew was meant for a collaboration challenge. I'm not sure I want to limit the forms, but a renga challenge would be fun all on its own. We'll have to come up with a couple of different ideas for the new year.

But in any event, so that we are clear, what we are talking about here, is two or more poets working together to produce one poem in response to the prompt. In other words, Dick and Jane write a poem about Spot and so do Sally and what was his name? Bob? Anywany you get the idea. It's not a chain poem; it's several individual poems written by teams of poets. That's why Renga is a good choice of form because as I understand it, it is designed to be written by two poets.

Interesting and would be quite a challenge. I've never really thought about it, though I guess I've collaborated with the kids on occasion.
