There is a significant flaw in using albums on Gather...because you can't always see what photos you have posted recently. Therefore, if you upload photos and place them into albums after uploading, your friends may never see them. Therefore, you should always post photos to albums at the time that you upload them, or keep them as stand-alone images. Even then, you may find comments on your photos to be lower than before the update.
I don't care for them myself. Honestly I am more likely to look at a picture that is not on an album because I just go down my feed list so if it is in an album I may click on the first photo but probably not the other ones as much.
It is harder for me to go back and see which photos have gotten views - especially the ones that I just added. Also, since I have a rather large album of pictures of my son, I find it very difficult to get them in the order that I would like - newest to oldest - since I would have to move one picture at a time. I just don't have the time to mess with it. I don't know, I liked the idea of photo albums to start, but I think it would be nice to be able to somehow view the pictures in a different way, like if the pictures that you upload could be sorted by tags or something...I don't think I've gotten as many views, so now I am spotlighting pictures individually again to drive traffic (so to say).
That's exactly how I feel Chris E, it's easier to view and comment on your feed than the photo album. I wanted to get others views before I did anything, thank you for your comments.
This is my plan. I will post photo's individually as I always have & then after a month or 2, I will put them in an album. You can always see a person's most recent pics by clicking on other photo's.
I did my first album today on "Halloween at Gilroy Gardens." I may do others, but probably won't publish them to groups like I did today. Being the owner of a couple of groups it really makes it time consuming to go through all the photos now. I wasn't even going to use the album option, but thought I'd give it a try today.
Honestly, I have no idea how that works. I actually prefer the albums because I am a fan of the organizational aspect. I guess the big thing though is that I am not using my photos to get points.
I agree with Jennifer. I like the way you can organize your photos. I organized all of mine into albums, but I haven't uploaded any new pictures since the summerpics promotion. I haven't had the time, honestly. If I did I would probably upload single images though and then after they had been up for a while I would organize them into an album.
I have been doing my photos 2 different ways. I publish them as I always did and then upload into albums also. I have noticed that some peoples new stuff is mixed in with their old. I do not think that is a good thing. So I try to make a new album for new stuff. I did repost a lot of stuff so that I could put them in albums without wrecking the original format without the albums.
I do not like the albums but I can live with them.
I don't like them because when people put their old photos in an album, they disappear from Rainbow Connections or other groups they were originally posted to. I've lost 20 pages of photos from the group since albums started.
Photo albums should be Group-free. Let the photos be submitted to various groups and not the albums. This really restricts what photos can be in what albums. For example, I may have a Nature album, and some of the photos are black and white. However, only those black and white photos should be submitted to the black and white photo groups. If I submitted the entire album to the black and white photo groups, those groups would be getting a bunch of color photos that don't belong there. Likewise, there are several photo and creative groups that feature a different color each week; this becomes burdensome to have a YELLOW Nature album, a BLACK & WHITE Nature album, a PERIWINKLE Nature album, etc.
I have seen my page views and comments go way down since the albums have been added. So, now I have my albums veiwable to only me. I still post pictures in the other photos. But they have maybe 5 or 7 comments. I really expect more since I comment on a ton of pictures. Maybe I will just start viewing pictures and not commenting as much. I don't know.
