I'm still Alive~

Well, I made it. I had my hernia surgery this morning at about 7:30 am. I had to be at the hospital at 5:00am, so we left the house at 4:15. An early morning & a long day!

They moved everything along pretty quickly without a lot of waiting time in between & I appreciated that.

We got back home at about 12:30. It would have been earlier, but we stopped at an Organic store that is only open during the week - so I never get to go there. I bought a few things.

Once we got home I sent my husband out to wash a large blanket at the laundry-mat & to pick up my prescription for pain meds. I didn't realize he was going to be gone so long (2 1/2 hours) and I was in so much pain when he finally returned! I took 1 pain pill waited about a half hour & then took a second one. I am still in pain, but it is fairly managable.

I am walking like an old lady though, all hunched over & pitiful. Do you feel sorry for me? I need some sympathy!

I haven't seen it yet (have to wait 48 hours), but I guess I have about a 3 1/2" incision in the groin area. It hurts!

Well, I'm going to go lay down & I might not be back on gather again until tomorrow. By the way - hate the way my homepage looks now! Figured out how to see the articles by my connections easliy enough, but still - it's too crowded now.

You need to stay ahead of the pain! Take the pills on schedule so you don't feel the pain. You will get better sooner. And this is coming from a woman who HATES painkillers. After a few days, then you can try to back off. And don't do too much. Just lay in bed and figure out the new Gather, then write an article to help the rest of us!

I was in a ton of pain last night & most of today. I am trying to stay ahead of the pain & also using some cold packs, as the Dr. suggested - the cold packs seem to help a fair amount.
I only got about 2 hours of sleep last night, so it was a long night. On the other hand, I started a new book & have almost finished it already!

I am still healing & still have a lot of pain. I truly didn't think I was going to be in this much pain.
We did go out for lunch today with my Step-Dad, since he is here visiting. But other than that I have been gathering, or laying on the couch resting.

Priscilla, glad you are home and able to gather a little. I know it must be very uncomfortable. I am happy to say I havent had that kind of surgery, but was told I needed something similar. Havent mentioned it to my other doctors. Brain surgery was hard enough. Plus emergency Hystorectomy with staples in my tummy, yes Metal staples My granny and I were both in Hospital at the same time and I should have gone up to see her. But I just couldnt walk. I had to check out of hospital to go to her funeral. Had to grin and bear it and walk down the isle to say goodbye.

Guess you're feeling much better now? The doctor I had really downplayed the amount of pain involved. After all it was "out-patient" surgery, how bad could it be? Very bad---worse than any of my 3 c-sections, worse than the gall bladder. Ouch! And bad news--those clips to hold the mesh in place will be pulling for a while. Sounds like you did pretty well though-- hang in there!

I'm so glad everything went well. They let you out of the hospital on the same day? wow..that's great.. being at home is much better than having to be in the hospital...as long as you don't try to over do stuff and relax. I'm surprised you're going back to work so soon..don't they usually tell you to stay out of work for a week or two..or 6.. after an operation? I think my ex was out for 5 weeks when he had his hernia op. Hope ya heal quick and get back to normal and out of pain! :O)

Don't you worry about that hunched over look Priscilla . . . everyone's entitled to that look after surgery. Glad it went well and may those pain pills kick in soon.
Suze, if it was a major operation they would probably want me to stay home for weeks. This was considered an outpatient operation - go home the same day.

My mom has had 2 of these surgeries. The first one was about 5 years ago and the last one was about 6 months ago. She is 72 years old.

Hope you start feeling better ! Ellie was right about the pain, I hate them too, but a nurse explained it once to me that if you are in pain, the body focuses on the pain and not the healing process, so it is important to keep n top of it- remind me of that when I have my surgery next week???

I am sorry I missed this Priscilla.
I had an incisional hernia repaired mid-belly 8, and then 6 1/2 half years ago. Yes, it does hurt and I am so sorry you had to go through this. Be careful about lifting from now on.

I hope by now you are feeling much better!

Priscilla - if you're in pain, please don't walk around - be very careful and yes, I feel sorry for you - hope you heal soon but everything takes time - lots of magnesium and calcium. Salud.

I'm doing very well now. Still no lifting, and my gardening has been limited to just deadheading stuff. I'm to not do any weeding, planting, etc. But once June arrives I should be all clear to do everything once again.

OK, I'm retarded. I just saw your post where you said you're "doing very well now". That's good to know! Take it really slowly with getting back into gardening ~ that really uses those abdominal muscles and can wreak havoc with your body after surgery if you do anything too soon or too hard (or too long!). Do a little bit at a time once you're able to begin serious gardening again...

Priscilla, my gather friend, I just commented on your pic and that is how I found this. I'm so sorry to be so late in even seeing this.
Hope you are doing fine now - poor baby. Do take it slow in the interim - let hubby help with the gardening for a while and don't overdo it once you are on the mend.:)
