The Emu (Photo Essay)

The Emu was a very good model, so we took quite a few pictures of him.  He had a very striking blue neck that made him very pretty.  These are all of the same Emu.  (Edward maybe?)  (There is a great children's book called Edward the Emu and another called Edwina the Emu--if you haven't seen them your kids will love them.)  (If you want to see them bigger, click on the photos in the corner to go through the slide show.)

I once made the mistake of asking if there were a humane way to make emu oil (hoping that somehow it was ground out of molted feathers or something)... it was a really sad day for me.

Marilyn, he stood there for the longest time. I think he really did enjoy it (or thought he might get a treat if he waited long enough.)

Back home, there were a few people that raised Emus... They had an Emu get out of his pen a few counties over from ours and noone could catch him...we would be driving down the highway and sometimes see him out in a field...I don't know if he ever got caught or just wandered around for the rest of his Emu life....

I just adore emus! Their eggs are such a pretty turquoise blue too.

Sue, they had another one that was brown, but it wasn't such a good model. It was smaller, so I don't know if that is because it is younger or maybe female and this was a male??? Anyone else know?

Great photos of them,I remember when I had sun poison.Could not get rid of it no matter what cream the doc gave me.It would always come back.Then I met someone who gave me some Emu oil to put on and in a matter of a month or so it was gone for good.

I believe, but could be wrong Emu's are attracted to shiny things such as gold, silver, maybe the flash of a camera. Maybe this is why he was posing he liked the flash and was trying to figure out how to get it hehehe!
