Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin started a movement when they wrote their best -selling manuscript , Skinny Bitch and it quickly moved up to be # 1 NY Times bestseller. This book is both an awakening and a kick in the ass, Skinny Bitch reveals the disgusting, shock, and awfulness of how our food is processed and at the same time inspires the reader to eat well and take pleasure in healthy foods.
Be forewarned Skinny Bitch can be down right vulgar, and if you are easily offended or upset in any way by certain words, you should find an alternative book right now!
But this book will kick you in the butt about what you eat and at the same time inform you about the brain-washing being perpatrated by the food industries i.e. meat ,diary, and egg.
Video Interview with the Skinny Bitches

Now onto some of the facts as I see it:
In chapter 7 the Bitches say
"The Myth and Lies About Protein" If we had a penny for every time some meathead asked us, " So were do you get your protein ?' we'd be richer than Oprah. 'Have you ever, ever, ever in your entire life, heard of anyone suffering from a protein deficiency? Did you ever see an elephant, moose, or giraffe joneing for a protein fix? ... It is a complete myth that we need a masive amount of protein.
My perspective: A body needs protein. Actually I have heard of many cases of children who are malnourished or starving who are protein deficient. As for elephants, moose, or giraffes. Their digestive systems are different. I just do not get the analogy.
Chapter 9
"Have No Faith: Governmental Agencies Don't Give a Shit About Your Health" is actually informative and more people should know how useless the USDA and even the FDA are when it comes to citizens health.
"the USDA is responsible for the safty of meat, poultry, and egg products. Hmmm. Tha's weird. Cause many high ranking staff members at the USDA were employed by or are otherwise affiliated with , the meat and diary industrries, and if the group responsible .... is run by people from the same industries they're supposed to be protecting us from... well that would be a conflict of interest. And it is."
Our ancestors were better off in many ways pre-WW2 when most families grew their own victory gardens and had their own livestock . Wish Americans would wake up and realize its the over processed foods they eat that are the main cause of obesity.
Chapter 12 The Bitches say
"FYI" 'Don't be a cheap ass hole. Yeah, yeah, yeah, organic produce is usually more expensive than conventional produce. But we spend countless dollars on clothes, jewelry, manicures, magazines, rent or mortgages, car payments and other bullshit. Surely our health and our bodies (we only get one body) are more important than anything else in our lives'
I can truthfully tell you that a number of the products they advocate are in my cupboard or on my ordinary shopping list. Yes, the foodstuffs are more costly than what is in your neighborhood store; but then chemicals and crap are cheap and despicable.
This paperback is not just jam packed with their beliefs and opinions. There are also numerous resources in the back of the book, food websites, and other recommended readings to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle. I recognize that they are proselytizing for veganism; but the things that they are advocating, are not bad things. All in all, these ' Skinny Bitches' really did their homework.
Be prepared to have your concept of a diet book turned upside down and stand by for a sharp kick in the ass if you read this book! But you will not regret it.

Great review.
But the way they push Organic Produce (lol) unless you your self know for a fact that that seed was organic to begin with everything else is moot.you have to know that the cows were not fed any feed that had any chemical fertilizer on it that makes the cow mess unorganic. The only true organic farmers are the ones that can trace the seed from the beginning and prove it organic.
Thanks gals!
I don't like cooking, I don't like buying groceriens and I am probably not going to grow my own tomates. So I guess I'll just continue to be a fat bitch who it reasonably happy until the end. I do eat more healty food than before, and do buy some organics. I have stopped drinking soda, and drink very little coffee.
It takes more than that to lose fat, especially when you have reached the twice your ideal weight stage--which can easily be done by yo-yo dieting. I have read that allergies and other factors affect women, especially over 40. Maybe I can get the humor of the bitches and make some changes, but I think I'll wait for the cookbook.
anyway.... there is some truth and honesty to every diet book. there is a lot of common sense. Eat more veggies and fruit, cut back on white stuff (Bread, sugar, flour, milk) and you will lose weight and feel better -- but this is not a once size fits all solution... nor will it work for everyone. It worked for them and makes some recommendations that are good and some that are " are they kidding?".. but it's a worthwhile read.
share it with a friend
The problems with touting any drastic dietary changes, is it isn't a 'one size fits all' issue, there are many components to health and well-being to be considered...
Thanks again for your honesty and LIGHT ;)

I agree with much about what we eat.
I think the format of the book is what is attractive (not to me, as this crude style of writing is not me) to a lot of people who would not normally buy a text-like book on nutrition and diets otherwise. More power to the authors who have found a way to GET to their audience. #1 on the NY list is no small peanuts!
the renewed interest is attributed to this:
"But it wasn't until Victoria Beckham, also known as the pop star Posh Spice and wife of the soccer player David Beckham, was photographed carrying a copy of it in a Los Angeles boutique in May that the book started climbing the best-seller charts."
I was a vegetarian back in the early to mid 70's and grew to hate brown rice n' sprouts ...LOL....i think common sense tells us all what we should avoid, but up to us to actually follow it...
I read that the book has some inaccuracies per the science, but nothing was specifically stated so i have not a clue what is or isn't accurate info in their book.....same o same o with a diff marketing cover....guess it is the new accessory for the hip n' chic,eh?
thanks for the invite ....well presented
cheers,gayle
the resources section.
A. Eat only when you are hungry. However, you can train your body to eat smaller portions during a 12 hour feeding period --7 am to 7 pm). Six such small feedings a day.
B. Don't be a dope--lots of water! Limit other drinks.
C. Whole foods. Cook more than you eat out. Portion control comes automatically.
D. Exercise. Start small, build up. Like portion control, it too becomes automatic.
E. Don't sweat the slip-ups. Obey your OWN PERSONALIZED eating plan 90% of the time. When you break the rules...get back to them with the very next feeding. You'll feel better about yourself than if you waited until the next day.
F. The health is more important than the weight loss. The weight loss, IF NEEDED, will come, and will be easy to maintain. IF NOT NEEDED, your healthy body will be its own reward.
Stop obsessing, stop yo-yo-ing. Love yourself!
