A few days ago he was watching Noggin and saw on one of the shows how to mix up paints. He had seen this before on another show (Max and Ruby) and set out to try it out for himself with his own paints.
Sure enough, he got out his paints and mixed up orange and green. I told him if he adds less or more color it would make it lighter or darker. Then he tried adding less blue to the yellow. He came up with what he called "grass green."
Then he set out to mix up two more sets of these same colors - for mom and dad. He laid out his paint board and one for dad. He says "You can have one of my paint boards, dad." He's ready to share one of his with me, too, but I tell him to keep it because I have my own paint boards still.
Gideon the art teacher tells us that we can paint anything we want, but we need to use the Orange, Green and Grassy Green paints.
Dad gets to work painting a picture of a place we want to go to: Baxter's Hollow. He doesn't know what it looks like, but he's going to paint it how he thinks it looks. He bends the rules a bit and uses plain blue and some brown as well. Gideon the art teacher doesn't seem concerned over this.

Gideon gets to work on his picture. He tried something different than his usual sun paintings and did a snowman.

I thought and thought what I could do with those colors. I came up with something plain - a flower. Yeah, I hate the painting... and now you all see why I plan out my paintings. When I don't you get a horrible result like this. Ick.

Gideon seemed to like it... at least someone does, lol. I think it was a waste of a paint board, but the lesson was fun and cute. That's all that really matters, anyway, right?
