December 10th brings the 10th day of Christmas Questions!

Here's question 10:

Do you have birthday cake for Jesus?


*I know this may seem like a strange question to some, but it was a tradition my grandma had and I've tried to keep it with my kids.  It's a wonderful way to remember the season.

No I don't, but what a neat idea! I remember when I was a little girl I made a birthday card for him though, and my mom turned it into an ornament and it was on our tree year after year.

Nope, but I have been to one of His birthday parties.

I once tried to get my family to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus at a Christmas dinner. Have you ever heard of a lead balloon? Yeah, that's how well the idea went over. Oh well.

That's a great idea,my church usually does that after the Christmas eve service they have refreshments afterwards and have the cake for Jesus,usually we have our choice of water ice tea hot tea coffee or punch,and we sing happy birthday to Jesus and anyone who happens to have a birthday in December.

I don't have much Christmas spirit anymore since my children were ripped from me...I only celebrate when I am able to see them for holidays. Having a birthday cake for Jesus is a cute idea though. I'll have to relay that to my children so that they can start that tradition.

No we do not but we do read from the bible on Christmas eve to the kids to remind them what Christmas is all about.

Plus Idon't need anymore sweets in the house. Between Christmas cookies and my daughter's birthday we have to much!

I have actually done that in the past and the church I go to actually had a birthday party for Jesus with the little kids one year... It is a great way to bring the meaning of Christmas back into our celebrations..

No birthday cake on December 25; but food items or gifts that are tangible or those of service can be given in the celebration of Jesus' birthday and doing it "in His name" "to the lease of these..." on a year 'round basis. Thanks for asking.

I have not personally done that but have seen and participated in birthday parties for Jesus. I like the idea but no young ones around my house any longer .... the birthday card ornament is a cool idea too ... maybe suggest it for a sunday school project!

No, I'm Unitarian Universalist and while I respect Jesus as a great spiritual teacher, his birthday is not what I celebrate at Christmas. I do try to embrace his spirit of love and non-judgement, however.

No. That's one tradition that wasn't there when I was young, and I never thought to do it as I raised my kids. That may be partially because there has always been so many "sweet" treats that no one ever thought of adding a cake to the menu.

My mom makes a traditional fruitcake every year with a splash of cognac and plenty of marzipan icing. The tradition is to let the kids stir it for luck in the new year. It is supposed to "sit" for several weeks before you ice it... I've never figured out why. It is one of those recipes that has been passed down for years from mother to daughter. If my sister doesn't want to learn it soon, I'm going to have to step in!

Yes, when we are at my parents' for Christmas, my mother makes a birthday cake for Jesus and has all the kids sing.
I don't, but my family is not very religious. On my Grandma's side of the family, when we had all the extended family getting together, one of my Great Aunt's would, though.

We do have birthday cake for Christmas, though- my daughter's birthday is in 2 weeks, on the 27th.

I seem to remember that we did have a birthday cake for Jesus once or twice when the kids were little, but it didn't become a tradition. I do remember singing, "Happy Birthday dear Jesus," after Christmas breakfast a few times, too. I think it just got lost over the years as Christmas snowballed into bigger and bigger every year.

The cakes are nice and this is a great tradition. I wish it would catch on for this nation. I do not like the thought of Christmas as it is today here in America.

No and we won't because it is not nor has it ever been his birthday. Christ has nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas. Other than the Roman's decreed it was his birthday to go along with and be interwoven with traditonal long celebrated pagan riturals of celebratiting the Satranalia and worship the Sun, the Sun God, Mithras Sun God of light and the like.

Jen D, can't you just accept that it is a day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus WHETHER or not he was BORN on that specific day?

Good point Wilma, Biblical scholars admit that no one really can pinpoint the actual day he was born, especially when we have had several different calenders in the past in the past two milleniums. Because of the calender issue we can only guess when Columbus Day is and that is a mere 500 years ago

No, we've never done this, but we do a lot of thanking Jesus for being born and for loving us and for everything the entire season long. In January we do it all over again. Christmas is a mixture of joy and religious traditions but January is more of a happy religious event. I love them both.

I think some people actually do this Christmas morning and let their kids eat birthday cake for breakfast. We don't do this, and with turkey with all the trimmings we are usually too stuffed to think much about dessert.
