I prefer ham, but it seems everyone who ever invites me for a Christmas meal serves turkey. I just had that at Thanksgiving...and I really only care to have it once a year.
My family always did turkey. Hubby's always did ham (which I hate). I usually do some of each. Since it's just the two of us (eating meat, that is...my son is vegetarian), I'll probably cook a couple of turkey legs and slices of ham. And all the things that go with turkey. :-)
The menu or plans are unknown at this time for this year and have varied greatly throughout the years. The most favorite is a hot meal and especially if meat is included; any of those meats you listed and the photographed foods you included are excellent!
It will just be me and Cindy this year, (see photo to left, please) so I won't do any of the above. I have a special recipe for roast chicken so that's going to be the "main course" at my house.
we usually have ham but this year it will be turkey. I won a 15 dollar gift check for a butterball turkey from gather so we will use that. my husband has been watching his salt so he does not want ham this year.
We have dinner at my sisters house. She had foreign exchange students from Japan when her daughter was in school. Now one of them has moved to New York and is like family. She among other things is a sushi chef. So our Christmas meal starts with a big bole of shrimp and sushi . The main meal usually is ham and or lasagna.
It varies for us. If we're not too tired of turkey we have it again. Otherwise we might have pasta because ham isn't an option since our youngest daughter doesn't eat pork.
we do both!! we have a HUGE family. my mom's has 2 sisters and 5 brothers, will all the children, great gc and great-great children, there is close to 100 people. we usually have 2 huge turkeys and 2 hams, my grandma makes homemade chicken and dumplings as well.
We used to have ham, but Hubby has Crohn's and pork products make him VERY sick. His dad will grill some chicken just for Hubby while the rest of us eat the bbq ham.
we have the honey glazed spiral ham. it's good for dinner. and for samdwiches days later. you don't have to comment me back. I can see how busy you are .Have a great day.
We have a small family so we don't do a big Christmas day meal. We usually have Christmas eve where we have lots of things to choose from. Then on Christmas day it is a late breakfast and a small dinner. The few times that we did have a big Christmas meal we had Filet Mignon, or Beef Wellington.
We always have a buffet style meal for Christmas day. We set out tons of finger foods of all sorts and then simply snack all day on good food while we visit. It's yummy and one of my favorite days of the year. peace
We will probably have the same meal for Christmas that we had for Thanksgiving this year...meatloaf. We always have to remember what we are thankful for and not dwell or be bitter of what we have not.
we have 4 christmas's to go to. So depending on which side were on. Mom-in-law-Prime Rib Pop-in-law-Turkey/Ham My mom-turkey my Dad, has christmas here, so what ever we want-turkey/prime rib/ham
Frequently we have ham. Sometimes we have Hickory Farms sausage and a variety of cheeses and dips with crackers. Every now and then turkey. We've even had enchiladas a time or two, for something different.
Usually turkey, ham and my brother brings a poor duck or two. I say poor, because sometimes those ducks give their lives in vain. My brother tries out different spices every year and sometimes the ducks he cooks are wonderful. But sometimes, not so much.
A farm purchased free-range turkey. I make fresh oyster stuffing for the crop and homemade sausage for a stuffing that goes in the main body cavity! ...i might take a nip of cooking sherry this year or it'll be tofurkey for me...
We don't have a "set in stone" menu for Christmas. One year I made a pot of chile and another of cheese soup, homemade rolls and a cheesecake. Other years we've had ham, turkey, cornish game hens, and one unfortunate year, a duck!
For the past few years, we have been fortunate enough to have filet mignon at my sister's house for dinner on Christmas Day. It is deliciously prepared. Wild Rice salad that my Dad makes, Spinach Salad w Strawberries, Cheesy Potatoes, Mashed Pototoes, Gravy, Green Beans, Corn, Warm Freshly Baked Rolls, Fresh Baked Pies, Cookies, Baklava, Chocolate Log Cake, Ohhhhhhhhh My - making me hungry!!!
I remember having either turkey or ham in childhood. My mother-in-law usually makes delicious turkey when we're there. About 6 years ago, I found a cool recipe at Wegmans for roasted pork with fennel, rosemary and thyme, and it's absolutely delicious. So, I have been making that as a kind of new tradition each year.
Thanksgiving has become turkey, Christmas roast pork, and Easter is ham.
mmmmmmmmmm, what ever we feel like. not sure what we will have this year yet. we've had rack of lamb, standing pork roast, duck, turkey, ham, one year we had nothing but finger foods. no specific tradition.
Somebody usually insists on having turkey, someone else usually insists we have to have ham,so usually we end up with both. Last year we had ham, turkey, beef pot roast, and roast duck.
I usually cook the turkey and my parents bring the ham...My dad will also smoke a venison roast just for me...He knows that is my favorite. Not sure where he gets them since he stopped hunting years ago for health and age reasons. But it is always a special treat for me...and no I don't share it...lol
We have a roast beef and a goose. That may change this year depending on the cost of the goose. I can get away with not preparing the goose, but everyone would be upset if I take away the beef!!
