Last night, Walter was paid a day late, due to Monday being a holiday. So, anyway, his check was $150.00, and we were budgeting and discussing what we needed to buy in Walmart, after buying gasoline ($35.00).
We had to take out $20.00 for my father to pay him back on previous amounts of money we have borrowed when struggling.
After Walmart's shopping, we ended up getting 2, 24 packs, a loaf of bread, toilet paper, and 1, $5 movie for Walter.
Of course, Walter is a smoker and many harp on him about this, but since he hasn't quit yet, we had to stop and get him cigarettes. That was about $3.00 a pack; about $17.98 to last a week time. That left us with a remaining of $37.00 and a few coins.
When we left the gas station again, the Toys R Us was sitting behind the gas station, so I said, "Why don't we go and check the prices out there?," since Mom got an ad on some sales. "Maybe they're having a Christmas sale."
Walter looked at me with that look and said,
"Its not even Halloween yet. Christmas sale?"
"Well, if we don't buy now, we won't be able to get them anything for Christmas.," I replied, teary eyed.
So, we went ahead and went over to Toys R Us. We spent about 3 1/2 hours in the store, debating what we could afford or get for both girls. We had to make the choice between the two kids; which kid to buy for first. Since, Gracee is our first and oldest, we figured, she would be easier to shop for.
We continued looking. We looked in the electronics. The movies and CD's were almost $20 each. That is only what, 1 movie and if lucky, a 2nd movie?
We looked at this pony that barked and was almost $200 and I almost cried, it reminded me of Gracee so much and us hearing, she is now loving dogs in the foster parents home. We really would love had gotten her that barking dog that wags its tale, but we couldn't afford it.
We looked at the dolls. They had some string and choking hazards for an almost 1 year old. We saw another rock and bounce pony, but it was $80 and we couldn't afford that, unless, maybe we saved for a few weeks. We found puzzles which were almost $15 each and that doesn't give you much in return for $30 range.
We kept looking. I felt like crying, but we didn't give up.
We finally walked near this giraffe. It was a Little Tikes Go N Grow Lil' Rollin' Giraffe Ride On toy and it was priced at $29.99.
I looked at Walter,
"Do we need emergency money for gas?," I looked at him all excited.
"Well, gas was $2.53 per gallon, so it almost filled the vehicle up.," he replied.
"But, can we make two trips to the hospital if I feel like I'm having contractions?," I asked.
"I think it can last two trips for the week if something happens.," he replies.
"I hope so. If not, I guess I'll have to take an ambulance and have mom pick us and the baby up.," I replied.
We put the giraffe in the cart. I begin to get hesitant.
"Um, well, do you think she will like that?," I asked him.
"Well, I think she will like it.," he replied.
"Are you sure? I'm worried she might not play with it.," I replied.
"I guess we will get it.," I continue.
"Oh look Walt; look at this sign.," I say excitedly.
"Look, if you buy any $24.99 toy or more, you get one $24.99 or less Little Tikes toy FREE. Isn't that cool? What else should we get her?!?," I smile.
He shows me this bright colorful piano.
"Well, I want something she can use her hands on to improve her motor skills.," I reply.
He shows me a drum.
"Well, she already has that shape sorter drum we bought her for Christmas. Don't you think one drum is enough?," I say.
"Well, you said motor skills and her hands," he looked at the drum with his heart set on it.
"Well, I really want to get her this Walt, please!," showing him a Little Tikes Workhorse; sorta like a work bench.
He hesitates on the drum and looks at other bigger kid toys saying "Maybe we should get her this," showing me a pink big piano.
"Walter, that says 4 and older and Gracee is only one.," I reply.
He really had his hopes up on getting her an instrument. Maybe we can go back and get her one if the sale lasts awhile! Or possibly, we can buy her one with an Amazon.com gift card from Gather. Who knows?
So, we ended up buying her the Little Tikes Go N Grow Lil' Rollin' Giraffe Ride On toy for $29.99 and the Little Tikes Workhorse was $24.99 (so this was our FREE toy).
I hope Gracee enjoys her first Christmas. We're still debating what to buy the newborn; she is probably, a harder one to shop for! We're excited about this Christmas for the children.
We hope Gracee enjoys these toys!
I hear the workhorse collapses and isn't a good toy. Who knows? Many parents may think different, but according to Amazon reviews, it is a 2 1/2 star rating, but this is the only toy we could afford Gracee. The giraffe toy has no ratings on Amazon.com, but I hope she enjoys and plays with what we've bought her. I'm worried about her having the best Christmas ever and proud Daddy over here, wants her to have a good one as well. We're both looking forward to it.
I thought I'd share the Toys R Us Buy One, Get One Free, Little Tikes toy sale. It sounds like a good bargain, when getting two toys for almost $16.00; our total was $32.09, leaving us a remaining of $5.00 and some change in my purse. We about went broke, but if its for our little girl, we will definitely make it happen and come true, that her Christmas be the best she will ever have.
On the way home, Walter was singing "I want to be a Toys R Us kid," and all I wanted to do is cry and wonder "Will we get to see our little girl on Christmas?," due to the DCS involvement and allegations. It about kills us both.

thats all I want for christmas is to see gracee's smiling face, and halee born healthy! that will be a perfect christmas for me!
One thing about early Christmas's that is nice, is that the kids don't expect much, and are just as excited by unwrapping items as they are to get the toys. For the newborn, a few things like rattles and a stuffed animal would be more than enough.
Good luck, Michelle!
I agree with Heather. Gracee won't be expecting anything, so she will have lots of fun opening presents, but wouldn't have been at all said, even if it was only one.
Mooch
That's wonderful!
newborn wont really know it is chritmas, so buy small things you know you can use,,,
