I have a Gather question

Does anyone know how the points system works?  I thought you got points when others post to your group but I haven't seen that happen.  So when do you get points and how many do you get.

No one really knows, that's what I hear. I started getting more points as soon as I stopped worrying about how to get points. And It's a lot more fun. I have some really good friends on here.

But I think it's just how many page views you get, on your posts and photos. I don't think it has anything to do with comments or anything. Or I could be completely wrong, which is much more likely.
The more active you are, the faster and easier you earn points. Aside from that, no idea.

beats me some times I see a big jump of 10 pts in a day and others none at all

Who knows? Like Heather said, the more active you are, the faster and easier you earn points.

Don't worry about the points. Enjoy the site, and the points will come.

when people post an answer to your post you earn points. I also think you earn more points commenting on articles published by people you are connected to. and people comment on your post than those you aren't connected to .

so the more people you get that you are friends with to post a comment on your post the higher the points you get

I've never been able to figure it out! I know I got tons of points from the summerpics promo but beyond that it's slow-going for me. Not enough time to spend I guess.

Nobody knows how points are earned. I suspect that if you have outside links from other sites to your Gather pages, it would help. Also I suspect that it is partly based on how many comments you leave on other people's articles... in other words, site participation.

I don't think you get any points for having a group. You only get them for posting and reading.

The Gather powers-that-be have, according to the official statement, "different algorithms" to determine your worth to the Gather community. According to this statement "The more value you provide, the more points you'll earn".
Some of the factors they use: "invitations that recruit new members, plus post, photo, or video views and ratings, and group membership growth".

I believe you get points for page views. The more views the better.
And, submitting to mass email groups, has helped me tremendously to get more views.
It's best way to advertise your stuff.

Kelli, you receive points for performing a variety of tasks on Gather. However, just like Coca-Cola, the formula is top-secret! Yes, you do get some points for hosting groups, the more active the group the better; but, even very large and active groups only give you a trickle of points per month. The best method to gain points is to publish (post) your own content and pray that someone takes time to view it and hopefully comment on it.

P.S. It seems that with the recent conclusion of the photo promo that points have dried up. Gather will never admit it, but the bonus points during promos are typically a trade-off of points for the unforeseeable future. It is known as "Robbing Peter to pay Paul". Points will probably be low and slow through at least the end of the month and possibly through October.

I am new too, so I missed the summerpics promo. I heard that you have to rate the pages you are viewing to get the most points. Let me know if you hear differently.

Noone really knows. The key thing that everyone seems to agree up on is to be active on Gather.
