In December I wrote about wanting to cut my son's hair myself to save money: How the heck do you cut hair?. Just about everyone advised against this but I didn't listen and I did it myself anyway.

First I spent about an hour debating (and trying them out in my hand) whether to use hair clippers or scissors. The whole time Jason was laughing at me and telling me I was making a big mistake. After 30 minutes of him giving me reasons why I shouldn't use either one I made my decision. He actually helped because his reasons not to included some descriptions of what would happen if I did certain things. I was going to use the scissors.
Forgetting how crazy Jonas is I tried to get him to sit down. That wasn't happening. I followed him around for 10 minutes trying to see if he had a pattern of play. He did so I took advantage. I was able to get some hair cut in the 5 minutes he was not interested in what I was doing to him. Then he got tired and was ready for a nap so I put him down and once he was asleep I went to work. Unfortunately his head was turned to the side so I was having a really hard time getting the side that was on the bed. Every time I turned it he would turn it right back. I had to give up so that I didn't wake him up. Further into his nap he turned his head for me so I could finish.

I didn't hack off a lot of hair. Just enough so that it was out of his face but still long. How could I ever cut that adorable hair short? My kids look good as rockers and hippies.
No bowl cuts for my kids. No short short hair either. And I am quite happy with the results. I think he is just happy that he can see without a mess of snotty hair in his eyes.

I'm glad that you've "just said 'no'" to bowl cuts. I will never understand why people do that to children.
Rick, come on over and I'll give it a shot!! This was my second haircut ever and I am really proud of myself. I tried with my older son once but I used the clippers and I totally ruined his hair. Apparently you are supposed to fade and do other weird things. Who knew.
I am going to give Zachary another shot in the next few days because his hair is getting in his eyes now. And I am not about to shave off his adorable hair either.
I think I commented and told you I cut my own hair and my kids hair. My teen however gets his cut from his girlfriends mom who use to be a beautician. As she went to school for it......Lol. I just laugh. As she is saving me the trouble.
Mel you KNOW I would screw up your hair. How are they easier? I need to see this!!
Mini...Jason's mom cut Zachary's hair once but she LIED and said that she paid someone to do it after I commented on how awful it looked. She really butchered it! I can always bug Jason to do it and eventually he might break. He is good at everything he does.
