Or maybe it's Jason's stupid work. I am not sure yet though hopefully we will know by this afternoon.
Yesterday I called his insurance company because he lost his insurance card and needs to go get a new mask or something for his sleep apnea. So I also wanted to ask how to go about getting an appointment- if he needed a referral or not. I am on the phone with the guy and tell him that he lost his card so that was the first piece of business we needed to take care of. When asked for his member number I told him we didn't know because we lost the card. They have ss numbers on file too so I gave him Jason's name and that instead. He does his thing and then says, "He hasn't had a contract with us since 2004."
What?!? I asked him if he was sure. I asked him if there was a chance that he was looking in the wrong place. I whipped out a recent paystub to confirm that we have definately paid about $900 so far just this year to his insurance. Not to mention the $1200 every other year that he has worked for them. I gave him the group number of the company so that he could look that up too and make sure (even though I was already sure) that the company still had a contract with Health Assurance. And they still do. I asked him if there could be a mistake. All he said was that he couldn't help me anymore and that he would need to contact the person in charge of insurance stuff at his work. Great.
If we find out that he is no longer covered but was paying into insurance is there something we can do about that? Are we entitled to get our money back that we paid in to nothing? I am hoping that there was some sort of mistake and everything is alright. But just in case I wonder what we can do about this.

Thanks Pamela! That is strange that they told you that. I have always had confusion with insurance and what is covered and what isn't!
No surprise, Jason called me and I asked him what they said at work. And he forgot to bring it up so I reminded him to ask before he leaves today.
Ryan that is crazy! I am almost thinking that it would be better if we saved the money that we pay out every month and just pay doctors upfront. Based on our history we would actually save money and in the event of a major accident, we are in a low enough income bracket that we wouldn't have to worry about the cost of the hospital bill.
Thanks Dagmara!
I would never pay upfront! Especially if I knew the insurance company was paying! We pay for insurance so that we don't have to pay when we go to the doctors.

It is a headache Anne!
Thanks for the info Debra.
Thank you Melinda.
Sherry, that coverage is only Jason! I actually underestimated it. With medical and dental he pays about $1700 a year. The kids are covered by the state because we make so little money. If he added the kids I think the cost would be about $70/week or more than $3600 a year!
I can't believe yours is over $500/month!! We would be paying a good percentage of our paycheck into insurance at that cost.
Debra we do keep all of our paystubs though I almost threw away paystubs from last year- I had just gotten them together to get rid of since I was thinking we were done with them. Though I know his employer has that history too. Thanks!
If you have group insurance and premium payments are deducted each month you have coverage. The glitch is in who is the correct insurance company. to me it almost sounds like your employer made a change and the information that you have is outdated.
At this point I see no reason to be concerned about not having coverage, but I would make it my business to get full, detailed information for the future and pay attention when they make changes in the insurance plan.
My BFs employer has changed plans three times in ten years.
