My daughter's birthday is May 12, and I need help to figure out what kind of birthday party do you do for a soon-to-be "13". A teenager, a milestone in life, I am stumped. I asked her and she said, "What ever you can afford Mom, I don't mind." That is my daughter, worries about the money 24/7, same as my son who just turned 18 in Jan. Boys are different, its just a small party with a couple of friends and thats it. But with a girl, its much more to it that just that, and I NEED HELP PLEASE! I do have a 2 tier cake she wanted ordered ahead of time, you have to order ahead because of the popularity of this cake. Tell me what you did with your "13" year olds, or what ideas do you have? I am on a budget. Please help me?

A few other ideas:
Make individual pizzas. By the stuff in bulk so it's cheap, and they can make personal pans and put their own toppings on. That way you don't all have to agree, and it's more fun than just ordering one.
Maybe rent a movie or two.
If you know someone who is in school for cosmetology or is just good with doing hair, ask them to come over and do the girls' hair in updos while they are watching movies. If the person is in cosmetology school, they have to do a certain amount for classes, usually, and will probably do it for free.
Rent some movies, get some popcorn, some popcorn toppings, and go to the dollar store for some fun nail polishes, lip glosses, hair stuff, etc.
Of course keep the prizes simple.
I like the hair thing. My daughter had a friend who knew how to do corn rows. Now, my daughter is a natural redhead with LONG red hair. You should have seen the look on my face when I came home from work and saw my exceedingly white daughter in corn rows! ROTFL!
Another thing that would be fun would be to do a "makeover" party. Either find a Mary Kay consultant or just get some different kinds of makeup and some fashion magazines and let them try on various ways of putting on makeup.
I agree with the sleepover. Depending on the kids, you can get horror movies (that was my daughter's pick), or chick flicks, or comedies, etc.
I liked the personal pizza idea. A similar thing I did that the kids liked was buy ice cream and a bunch of toppers. They made a royal MESS but they had fun. (I had 4 kids, so I got a lot of practice with the birthday party thing).
Something my friend did was had a Spa night. Had one one of her friends that was a Avon lady rep come over. The Girls that were invited to the party with their moms. Everyone got a make over and there was no pressure for anyone to buy anything. The Rep showed how teens should do make up and care for their faces. We had little tea sandwiches, cookies, and tea. Afterwards we all put on a nice outfit and went to get sundaes. all the girls stayed the night and did manicures and watched movies.
Another friend of mine had a '60's theme party and had everyone dress up. Played '60's music and borrowed a few lava lamps and bean bag chairs. They had a dance contest...A home made cut out where you can do digital pictures with the beatles....just a few ideas
