This happened almost a year ago. It was a week before Chirstmas, Mon Dec 18, 2006. I had to go to the post office to mail off some boxes to my family to reach them in time for them to open on Christmas.
My husband was at work so it was just Madeline and I. So first I had to figure out how in the world I was going to get 4 rather large boxes and the baby all into the post office.
Well I solved that problem quickly. Luckilly we had a fairly good size stroller, so I threw it in the trunk, and decided the boxes would all go in the stroller, and I would push the stroller and carry Madeline in my other arm.
Well then came the next obstacle. I hadn't taped up my packages yet, because I had ran out of packing tape, so I had to buy some while at the post office.
The line of course was outrageous because after all it was only a week till Christmas and everyone else, just like me, had waited till the last minute to ship their gifts.
So there were two older ladies behind me in line, who were kind enough to watch my stroller while I squeezed my way thru to the wall with the tape on it, and grabbed some and made my way back to my stroller.
Then thankfully those kind ladies also helped me tape up my packages. Actually one of them offered to hold Madeline, and while I was weary about letting a stranger hold her, she wasn't going to get far in the mess of people that were waiting in line, so one of the ladies held her while the other helped me tape my packages. I did want to make sure that I got them taped well, so that nothing came out. Since we all know how careful the USPS is with our stuff.
Well, after awhile of waiting it was almost my turn. That is when I realized that Madeline had a wet dipe. Well I figured I am next so it won't be long and I can go change her in the car, no way was I giving up my spot to change a wet dipe, when I had waited soooo long already. Finally, I got up to the counter, and one by one placed my boxes up for the lady to weigh, and price. Then I smelled it, uh oh, it was a stink bomb, but again, I was almost out of there I just had to finish getting my boxes weighed and pay, so no big deal, right. I could wait a few more minutes to change her dirty dipe. Boy was I ever wrong.....
Let me describe the post office a bit. The line goes along the back wall, then there is a skinny long table that separates the area, then there is the counter and are 3 people behind the counter.
So next thing I know a woman who is fairly far back in line, but is standing directly behind me, on the other side of table reaches over and taps my shoulder, and says excuse me I think your baby has a dirty diaper.
Well that is when I realize that it was much worse than what I thought...
I looked at Madeline and realized that poo had come out the dipe. She was wearing a onsie, with pants on over it, but poo was running down both of her legs, through her pants, her socks were covered, and worse yet, there was a pile of foamy runny poo on the floor by my feet!!!!!
Now this is when she was only about 4 months old, and so she was on no solids at the time, only breast milk. So her diapers were always kind of runny, but this one was explosive!! It was aweful!!! Obviously because it was all over her and the post office floor.
So probably 50 people in the post office, all staring at me, I tell the woman that the floor needs cleaned so she hands me dry paper towels to clean up the mess, of course that wasn't going to do the trick, but I did the best I could with what I had! I also had poo on my pants leg.
Luckilly by the time I cleaned up the poo, all I had to do was pay the woman, and be gone. But how totally embarassing. Maddie had gone in the stroller when I was cleaning up, and she was fussing because she was poo covered. Then to leave we had to manuever thru even more people as the line had grown to twice the lenght it was when I first arrived.
So as soon as we got to the car I stripped her down threw everything in a plastic bag. Thank goodness I had one in the car, and then it took probably 15 wet wipes to clean her up, before I could put a new diaper on her, and then put her into the carseat..
Meanwhile there were tons of people waiting for a parking spot and circling staring at me probably cursing me for screwing around and not giving up my parking spot when I could clearly see them waiting for one....
At the time it was the most embarassing thing ever, but by the time I had my seatbelt on and was pulling away, I was calling my husband and getting a good ol' laugh about what had just happend.
I still get quite a laugh when I think about it!

It is quite funny now, but oh so embarassing at the time, especailly since there was nothing better for anyone in there to do while they waited in line, except to watch me clean up baby poo, lol!
Marianne~ I did want to die for a moment when it was all happening...
Heather~ yes, I was beyond embarassed!!
But I have a great embarassing story to tell the bf's when she gets older, hehe!

Blessings to your family...
I know that telling the story a few times after it happend I laughed so hard, that I cried, but at the moment it was happening it was very very unfunny...
Lydia, I know, thank goodness it wasn't a cold day, or else poor Maddie would have been freezing riding home with only a dipe on..... and oh yes, that poo can be quite a mess....
There was one other explosive incident, where we were in the car on the way to a friends house and Maddie went poo. When we got there, we didn't realize it yet, and carried her in, in the carseat, the wife of dh's friend had not seen Maddie before, and wanted to take her out of the seat, well, she got herself covered in baby poo, lol because it was all over Maddie.
Luckilly she didn't mind at all. Well I am sure she minded a little bit.
Necee~ That post office is right down the road from my house, so that is the one we always go to, so I have been back several times since then, if any of the workers remembered the incident they didn't show it, but I am sure they were frazzled from being so busy.. But I will def be there again in another month mailing off Christmas gifts again!
