Do you give your children an allowance?

Maddie's only 15 months old, so not yet

Right now, she gets ALL OF OUR DISPOSABLE INCOME!

My daughter is 7 and the main thing she does is clean her room.. I really dont give allowance for that because its more of a responsibility than a chore I guess you could say.. She does help with laundry and dishes sometimes and I usually give her a dollar or 2 for helping me! She does one or the other about once a week.. I am a stay at hom mom so I get it all done while she is at school normally... If we go to a store or something I usually give her like a dollar to buy some candy or something and at walmart she always gets something! So I guess I dont give a set allowance but I do get her stuff frequetly for cleaning her room and helping around the house! Im sure allowance will be necessary when she gets old enough to actually do dishes and laundry..

Raegan & Chris just started earning a regular allowance this year when school started. They are 11 & 8, and each earns $2 a week and has a list of chores they need to do in order to get the allowance.

We cover their lunches at school, as well as book orders. The only thing they need to pay for out of their allowance, is the frivolous things they want. We push them towards saving it for a bigger item.

How often do they get it? Weekly?

I can't be very helpful because we only give our kids dogfood/catfood/treats & toys for allowance.

The allowance issue varies by child in this house and will change when they actually do household chores... For doing a job well done, our 3 year old gets incentives (trip to park or $1 to get a toy at the store)... Our 6 year old gets a quarter a day for picking a "healthy choice" off the lunch menu at school... The ten year old (since he doesn't live here) gets monetary promise certificates towards a classic truck he wants... Together the group gets all our change in their vacation fund, but must evaluate themselves how much to give to charity and what charity to give to... They collectively picked the vacation spot, by the way...

I wish I did. I had an allowance when I was younger and I enjoyed it. However I can't get my sons to help around the house much and my feelings are, if I have to remind you every day to unload the dish washer then I should pay myself. Other than that little chore, my kids don't help around the house outside of keeping their rooms clean. My husband pays them for the jobs they do for his business, but that is a earn as you work thing.

Sometimes. has to work for it, some jobs are more than others. There are ones you do just because you live there. Since they cannot save money I put $ away in a savings account many times for the future (car, college, whatever).
