I have a computer question to ask and hope someone here can answer it for me.
I scanned a bunch of my photos into the computer today with plans to store them by burning them to CD. Then I discovered I don't have enough room on the CDs to store all the photos. I can't go buy more CDs for a couple of months and I don't want to leave the photos sitting on my computer taking up storage space on the hard drive. Plus my computer is old and acts up frequently which makes me worry about it crashing and taking all my photos with it when it dies before I can get them burned to a CD.
Then I had an idea.
Why not store them as email attachments in emails I send to myself? I use Google for my email and they have the "archive" feature with lots of storage space. So I was thinking I could just send multiple emails to myself and attach groups of my photos to each one. That way Google could store them for me and I could get them off my hard drive. Then when I want to look at them or print them out or work with them, I can access my archived emails and download whatever attachments I want at that time.
I know there are some computer-smart people here on Gather, so thought I would ask if you think this is a good solution or not. What, if anything, would be bad or wrong about doing this? Do you think my idea is a good one?
Thank you for your opinions and thoughts on this.

upload them to picasa.
Not sure about that. They would still be there, but also taking up space on your hard drive.
Mozy
Can you burn DVDs on your computer? If you can, they will hold a lot more pictures.
Now, be sure to buy another CD to burn your pictures to, before you accidentally delete the emails.
Incidentally, I've been attempting to back up files recently myself, but I'm having trouble with my CD burner. I have plenty of blank CDs, but the writing process keeps failing. (I'm running out of remedies to try, so it looks like I'll have to buy a new CD drive. I hope not.)
It`s free too. I use it and photo bucket. Tiny Pic actually loads alot faster too
First, do not burn photos that you care about to just one CD anyway, you might scratch it, lose it, etc.
Second, they hardly even make just a CD burner anymore, so burn your data to DVD, you can even play them on your DVD/TV. A CD holds maybe 700MB, where a DVD DL or dual layer holds over 8GB ... yes, that's GIGA-bytes.
Finally, you can indeed store your photos online in any number of places, and it is unlikely that they will be lost because of a bad disk or something like that.
You can also resize your photos or compress them with image software so they take up less space.
And lastly, you can delete the bad ones, or save only the ones that are really good.
I think there are stores that will burn your camera photos onto CDs as well.
Thumb drive, larger internal camera storage, etc.
