Am interested to know what you all think. Should they be ticketed on the spot?

In my area they are putting cameras up instead of using signals for when vehciles come to a light. But everyone knows the real reason for this is to catch the people running red lights to giv ethem tickets. Because alot of deadly crashes in my area is caused from people running red lights. Not all of them. But alot of them.
I don't like the cameras everywhere either. I was caught speeding on one once (going 30 in a 20). Speeding is relative, but that's not why I don't like them. Like Ana S. they scream big brother for me too.
Something absolutely needs to be done. It's not just reckless driving; it's that "I'm more important than you so get the he** out of my way" attitude that I can't stand. I can't believe people think it's ok to hold up traffic because they aren't in the correct lane--how incredibly selfish.
I wish there was a good way to report people driving recklessly. Right now, the police are so overwhelmed that by the time the call goes out on the air, it can be an hour later! (I have a police scanner that I listen to at home. It's like Cops on TV only with street names you recognize)
I don't mind the cameras as long as they're posted. I wouldn't like it if it was done secretly. My opinion is if you know there are cameras, don't speed! LOL! I really don't mind all the cameras ... they can solve nasty problems. If you are side-swiped and there are no witnesses, a video of that might be to your advantage.
I also think that whether or not you like cameras depends a lot on whether or not you've witnessed or been involved in a case of reckless driving. It's awful to see something, knowing you have no hope of doing anything about it. I've had things stolen from me, and I *sure* wish I'd had cameras set up to find who the jerk was who took $700 worth of tools from my front porch. :(
Ever since I was hurt badly enough in a car accident to leave me on disability I get very angry and upset about people who drive wrecklessly and without any regard to others lives beig at risk because of them.
By the way ... I was hit by a wreckless driver weaving in and out of traffic on the expressway talking on his phone while speeding and drinking coffee.
Just stopped by to say hello :)
Yes, I agree they should be ticketed for reckless driving. If the police officer writing the ticket doesn't actually see it, the driver may not have to pay it.
Glad your daughter was not seriously hurt. I can imagine nothing worse. You must have been really scared when you heard.
My husband beat the cops to our accident because I called him as soon as I got of the phone with 911.
Nothing worse than hearing your kids scream "What happened? What was that? I'm afraid I am going to die." I think that was what made me snap out of it...everything went black.
