Wicca 101 Questions.

I'm going to be posting discussion questions from the Wicca 101 class I have on line. They may be a little different and in a different order as I am using the current class manual and not the on line one to do the posts. (I'm looking into new web publishing software and when I get it will start redoing the on line Wicca 101) I hope to start discussion with these questions and that anyone can hop in at anytime as they will always be open. The first one will be from week 2. The reading assignment would be Pages 1 -11 of Bucklands Complete Book of Witchcraft ( 1 -8 if you have an old edition) and the class lecture, which can be found www.dragonpalmcircle.org/wicca101 .

Our first discussion question is: The Old Religion, what was it?

Good question. I'm sure that no one living today knows for sure. We have a lot of different ideas from different traditions, and much of what I have been taught was cobbled together from various Native AMerican tribes and Buddhist practice.

From what I understand the Old religion is from 25,000 years ago before Christanity was even thought about.

Merry Meet.

I am working on lesson 1, still have 3 more pages to read in Buckland's , just got it today in the mail. also, i am working on my book review, but unfortunately, i had no book at hand, so I am doing it from a book that also comes in pdf as well as hard back and paper back.

am excited about doing this, even tho it may take me a bit longer than a day and a year.

I forgot to answer the question in my last post. The old religion(s) where most likely nature based because nature, as we all know, can be a very foreboding presence. Even at its best, it had to be awsome to prehistoric peoples. Animals, huge plantes such as trees and plants that where edible or poisoning had to be in awe of nature. and to make nature work for you, well you had to be attuned to nature, by worship, even in the most basic ways. As people evolved in their knowledge, the rituals became more elaborate, and were more far reaching than those developed by a small clan or tribe. and of course as time went on so did the nature worship. If the story of Adam and Eve, isn't some nature fable than I don't know what is. Displease the God and and you lose the bounty of nature and you are on your own. And as time went on knowledge was passed on, & on & on....and it wasn't lost due to the burning times, it was lost, as a lot of the past was, due to technology replaced doing things the old way and not just in the 20th century, preceding centuries where there where inventions and techniques developed that was thought to improve the old way of doing it. I think that if it hadn't been culpeppers book on herbs, alot of that knowledge would have been lost as well.
