A little about Wicca 101

The Coven I'm part of, Dragon Palm Circle, has had a wicca 101 class since 1998. When we started our first website we got many emails that we should do an online Wicca 101. We started with a Yahoo Group - sending out a different lession every week - this didn't work to good, as we had new people joing all the time. By this time we had a site for our website and started rebuilding it. In doing so we added the Wicca 101 class to it. It took over a year to get the complete class on the site with it and the yahoo site we ready. The main problem with the yahoo group was again the fact that people were joining at different times and it made discussion hard as their may be months between threads and you would have to go back and look up the different parts of it. I then added a forum so that each discussion would be together - but spammers attacked the forum and made it impossible to use. About the time I tossed in the towel for the forums I had found Gather. And though - the start of a discussion question would be the article and then the comments could be the discussion.

It could also be a good place to place book reviews on Pagan related books and to ask questions.

Got the group set up now just waiting for the people to come.

I've been looking into Wicca off and on for a few years, I've been able to gather a couple of books, but I find myself getting frustrated by wanting to ask questions or get more info on what I've read. Googling is only entertaining until you realize you must sort through 300 different sites to get the answers or info you've been looking for. So, this place feels like a good fit for me. Thank you so much for having it. And, I apologize in advance for any questions I may ask that seem silly or stupid. I'm completely new and know very little, so bear with me, please!

I think one of the biggest problems with an online Wicca 101 is that people want to ask questions, but feel they may be looked at as silly or stupid - so they remain quite. The only silly or stupid questions are the ones not asked. One of the main reason Coven teaching is so good is that you get interaction between people - there is not reason not to be able to do that on the web. Sites like Gather gives us a lot of tools to work with to interact. So please ask your questions.

I am new to this but have been interested for quite a while. I live in a very small town so I don't have a lot of opportunities to gather information so I was really happy to find all of you. My problem is I can't find the books I need. I have checked with our library and they act like I am crazy for wanting them and then tell me they can't order them in. I would buy them, but I am on a fixed income (soc. sec. disability) and I just don't have very much money to spend. In fact, I have pretty much none to spend on them. I was wondering if you knew of any place that sells used books really cheap. I would appreciate anything you can tell me. Thank you, Blessed Be, Patty Miller
