School Portrait for $137!

Kyleigh recently got her school picture taken at the day care.  Just a few days prior to that, she tripped and fell and got a huge bruise and bump on her forehead.  So I didn't really expect the pictures to come out good.  Plus, Kyleigh is normally notorious for not smiling to the camera.

Yesterday the photographer brought the pictures in.  When I saw Kyleigh's package, I was shocked!  All three poses were surprisingly good.  I could hardly see her bruise, and she was smiling so sweet!

I was also shocked by the price tags.  The a la carte price is $15 per sheet, $35 per 10x13 collage, and $100 per 3 images.  The smallest package is $56 for 4 sheets, and the most complete package is $137 for 12 sheets (4 sheets per pose), one 10x13 collage, one CD (with all 3 images), 1 one-page 2010 calendar, and the copy right (so I can distribute and/or modify the images any way I want). 

I really only wanted the CD and the 10x13 collage and the 3 poses in 8x10 each, but that combination will run $100 + $35 + 3 x $15 = $180! 

I can't quite figure out what I want to do yet.  I am definitely going to buy these photos because they are wonderful.  I just don't know what package or items I should get.  Ugh.  Why do they have to be so expensive!?

Its great that the photos came out so well, but the pictures sure are expensive! Its so much cheaper to have pictures taken somewhere like Wal-mart and they will redo the shot up to 20 times if you don't like the picture.

I have tried all the "regular priced" places like JC Penney, Sears, Picture People, and none came out really nice.

I got a sticker shock like that too when we did our family photo for our church directory. As bad as I wanted to, we just couldn't afford to pay what they were asking. We ended up just getting the free 8x10 that the church provided for us. I don't see why they charge so much, it's not like it costs a lot to print the pictures anymore, and most are taken digitally so there is no time consuming film developing they need to do. If anything the price of photographs should have gone down a little bit, but that's just my opinion. I have only been to a studio for pictures twice in the past 8 years. I take my own pictures now.

Take your own photos at the daycare center or wherever, and download them to your computer, and copy as many of you like in whatever size. The amount it will cost will be far less. I would never pay money like that, its inane.

That's insane. You can buy per sheet for our school but at MUCH LESS. Packages start at about $20 for ours.

Wow that's crazy. I don't have kids yet, but after reading all the posts here about all of the small things you all are paying for it seems like I'm going to need a trust fund just to have a kid. Good luck with your decision!

Get whatever fits your budget Selene and take them to a copier
center cause you can get good prints for a small fee. I've had to
do that because my budget was so tight. Good luck.
