I am really frustrated at certain people. I told them about Gather, but they don't really do anything other than the initial sign-up. Instead, they recently become all over Facebook and/or other networking sites that (not only do not pay, but) charge membership fees. I just don't understand. Gather is free to join, and it pays us. Why not Gather!?

Google yourself, If you're not already in the practice and look at the results. I think you'll be surprised ...
facebook, is cool, gather is not... it really is that simple.

Facebook suffers from a similar problem with too many meaningless apps (especially in the most recent version of their layout), but Facebook has the appeal of a gigantic membership base, which is helpful in luring new people in. Most folks who join Facebook find multiple people already there from different areas of their own lives.
Those that joined under me just never really picked it up. One recently tried wanted to start up again, but she could not remember her password. She got another one from Gather, but it still doesn't seem to work, so she still cannot get back on yet. Hopefully soon.
My friends on myspace do a lot of blogging there. I always wonder why they don't seem to want to write the same stuff over here, at Gather, and end up with money. Go figure.
I like Gather ;-)
I think it is a shame that some people don't find enjoyment here. I love Gather.
Last year, I told a friend that I had a profile on Gather and he said, "I've never heard of it." It seems that either he never bothered to check it out or has decided that he doesn't like it.

Gather needs to crack down more on a lot of this behavior. It is gaming the system, and potentially ripping off advertisers (without whom the site wouldn't be able to exist).
I think the biggest way to crack down on this is to not award points for posting comments, only content. That would eliminate a lot of the crap.

I like Gather and do not bother with Facebook, but different things appeal to different people.
