Book Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Yes, you read it correctly!  I am slow on the uptake with this one.  I believed the Harry Potter series of books were for kids.  The movies were very enjoyable to me, though.  My nieces and nephews kept telling me I should read the books because they were so much better than the movies.  I finally decided to read the first one, and, I have to admit they were right!  Even though I knew the story somewhat from the movie, the book goes into much more detail.  I fell in love with Hagrid in the movies and love that character even more now.  I'm looking forward to reading all the books!

The books have so much more information, and are a lot more in depth. One thing you'll notice is that as the books go up in "years", the writting also seems to mature a bit. The overall series was VERY well done. JK Rowling makes great use of small obscure details from prior books that seem like nothing at the time.

Your nieces and newphews are right. I have read all 7 books myself and I am looking foward to the last 2 movies. The movies are good but the books are even better.

I wish I'd waited to read them, Bundy....the time between books drove me crazy. You can just sit down and read all 7 with no waiting!

AS the books move along, and the kids get older, the themes and conflicts are stronger. I think Rowling learned a lot about writing too, as the books get better, if much longer. But if you know you are going to sell 12 million copies the first hour, then you let the writer tell her story her way. RIGHT ON!

I too thought the books were for kids and then I decided to give it a try 5 years ago and have read them all. I love the series and am sad to see it end. Enjoy the rest of the books.

After all the hullabaloo a few years ago, I read the first one just to see what all the excitement was about. I enjoyed them too and I'm glad I tried them.

I read them all a few years ago. I haven't read the newest and last one though. I WILL read it, I mean, we have it here but I just haven't done so yet. I will read it when the time is right for me. :-)

I didn't start the series till after the first movie then I was hooked. I loved all the books, I think you will too.
Bundy, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, as Hubby would say. I haven't gotten around to reading these yet, either.

My kids were a little older and didn't get into the books. My husband wanted to see the movie. I wasn't interested but I went without complaining. As soon as I got home after the movie, I went to my neighbor's house and borrowed the 1st 4 books from her daughter. I've now read all seven books and seen all the movies up to date. Ms Rowling is a very imaginative and creative writer! I really can't believe that these books were written for children with the evil people and the killings and the ghosts! She certainly kept my adreline pumping. It's just too bad that you can't lose weight that way!
