The remodeling begins....

My husband and I have been debating for a year or so about re-doing the house as the kids have moved out. Problem is they keep moving back in...but that is another story. Our subflooring has began caving in making it necessary for us to start the process whether we are ready or not. Our home is 22 years old and we haven't been happy with the layout in a while. We have totally redesigned the layout. Nothing will be where it is now. We decided to start in our bedroom which is in the back corner of the house and work right to left. So in November we moved our bedroom into the living room, put up temporary closet rods for the clothes, and moved another bedroom and the linen closet into the other side of the house. To say we are a little cramped is an understatement. Well, as we move into 2009, our house begins its transformation....

 

 

This is my hallway. Behind the sheet is what used to be my bedroom.

 

 

 

 

 

This is a birds eye veiw of the hall way and the wall to my sons bedroom. You can literally put your hand in between the floor and the wall.

 

 

 

 

 

This is the 20 year old carpet in my room (no, it never got updated.) You can see the difference in the color where my waterbed was and where it was not.

 

 

 

 

 

This is my husband. Yep, he is starting a chain saw in the house. This is what they used to cut out the old sub flooring.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the initial cut.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the initial fall through of the floor. One just might want to know where the wiring is before they use a chain saw. Yes, you guessed it, they cut this one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, I will add some more pictures and keep you all updated. This is going to be a long process, but hopefully will all be worth it in the end.

But my kids are still here, all 3 of them...lol

Boy do I understand, We have done some remodling but if we decide to stay and not sell for something better we too will need to do some remodling, The kitchen is a must and so is our bedroom. We also have a second bedroom needing the floor replaced in spots. I understand about kids moving in and out too. That has been the same for us and the grandkids are coming close to moving in soon if we don't get this done soon we may never get it done. But got to plan and prepare and finances are tight. Gather has helped three times now with some of our remodling projects, we got the living room floor and dining room floor done and a new storage shed a lot closer to the house has been done. We are eyeing our bedroom now and possibliy adding a room off the living room. For whatever, family or maybe an office or gym room

I wish we could remodel our house. It's 100 years old and needs a LOT of work. The sad thing is, we just don't have the $$. Good luck on your endeavor and please post the pics.

Yikes! one room at a time! That's the best way to do it... otherwise, it'll raise your electric/gas bill.. TON of work and I definitely wish you the best with it.

Oh boy that is a big job. We are doing minor things around here and we have to re model an old bathroom. My husband is at an age where he doesn't want to do anything anymore. Well yesterday I told him if he doesn't get going on these projects than we will move into an over 55 condo or apartment and get rid of the house. Ugh, I won't even tell you about the mess he has here over a small project he started yesterday. So I wish you loads of luck and can't wait to see pics of your remodeling.

We recently purchased a house. We first thought, a little new paint, tile and carpet would be enough to move in. Now we decided it needs new sinks, cabinets, and a whole lot more. So, who knows if we will ever move or not!

haha remodeling is fun and crappy all at once. i just gutted and re-did my whole house. it was a lot of work but with me and my dad we got it all done real cheap. worked out great

I remember when I decided to repaint a bathroom cabinet and 18 months later I had just finished remodeling the rest of the house as my project spilled out into the hallway and went from there.

we are doing one room at a time but not really remodeling... just redecorating...
except for one bathroom where we had to redo EVERYTHING.
Hope it's done before you know it and you feel like you have a brand new home!!!
