I am really excited about the new upgrade. It just hit me as I was viewing It is going to make it so much easier to upload photos. The homepage is so much more inviting. It actually has photos of events such as a wedding, water fun and so forth from the current Gather members. Gather will be down from 11 PM- 3 AM for the upgrade.
I have some details on the photo upgrade. The community will now be able to make photo albums. You can use your existing photos or you can upload new ones for your album. You can make as many albums as you want. Each album will hold up to 200 photos.
Some Key Information:
1. Tomorrow when you go to your Photos - at first glance - it may appear that you have none. Don't be alarmed! The system is set to default to the "Albums". Simply look on the left and you will see "Albums" & "Other Photos". Click on "other photos" to see your photos. You can upload up to 40 photos at one time.
2. The first time (after the upgrade) you try to share a photo or video - you will be prompted to download "Gather Photo Up loader" to your computer. If you use more than one computer, you will need to download one on each separate computer. This will enable you upload your photos. If you do not accept this download, you will not be able to upload video or photos.
This download will NOT track or will NOT send your personal information or surfing habits to anyone at any site. So do NOT worry about your privacy.
3. Once you have uploaded your photos or written a post, you will now have the option to "Invite Your Friends or Family to View this post or photo". You can use this option or skip this option. You will have a box to type in your personal note to the receiver. You can copy and paste the link to your post or photo in this box as well.
Keep in mind that if you have your photo or album to limit who can view it, the person you send a link to must be a member of that group. If you set it to "everyone can view" this will not be a problem.
Note that when you type in your email addresses to send an invitation to friends and family to view your posts and photos, Gather will not keep these addresses in any data base. They will not be used for anything except to send your invitation.
4. The person viewing your photo album has choices as to how they view it. They can just view each photo individually or they can view it as a slide show.
When viewing a photo album as a slide show, you can pause it and comment on a particular photo. This selection will bring up the photo in another page so you still have the slide show on the same photo. You will not have to begin at the beginning again unless you want.
5. Note that when you view a photo album in the slide show view - it does not count as several page views. It only counts as one page view. However if you do pause and pull up a photo in another screen to comment on it - it counts as another page view.
6. Keep in mind that you can delete a photo from an album and still keep it on the Gather site or you can delete it from Gather entirely.
7. Note that if you want a photo in an album and in the individual photos, you will need to upload the photo twice. When you add a photo to the album from your individual photos, it is removed from the individual photos. Thus the only way to view it is in an album.
8. You can add your current photos to an album.
9. You will still be able to click each photo separately. You will also be using the click and drag method to make it easier.
In conclusion: I did take more notes on how to use all the new features but someone from Gather will submit a post with all those directions so I will not post it here.
You will love these new upgrades. It will make your Gather experience so much more pleasant.
Chuck said the upgrade after this one will cover Groups.

This sounds like it will be a bit confusing at first but will be a lot of fun once we figure it all out.
It sounds like it is going to be a good upgrade. I look forward to having a chance to play with the new features tomorrow.
they do that on other sites like photo bucket too and love it.
No worries, Connie, I'm not allergic to reading. :D
