Things that make you go !@#$%^&* - The Time

Why do some people think they know that you are wearing a watch when you know you aren’t? I have a bracelet that some people obviously think is a watch and on more than on occasion mind you, I have had people ask for the time and when I tell them that I am not wearing a watch they say “yes you are”. I stare blankly at them for a moment thinking to myself “oh ya, they are so right I DID put on the watch that I don’t own this morning, stupid me” but as I assert once again that I don’t know the time because I am not wearing a watch they invariably point to my arm – where I am still not wearing a watch but a bracelet. I then have to show them it’s not a watch because they don’t believe me. They then tend to wander away feeling stupid, embarrassed smile lingering on their lips. It only last a moment though and very soon I again hear a very faint “yes you are” behind me.

That is rather strange that people wouldn't believe you and then you show them and they still say yes you are....

LOL i think id have to tell them if they persisted that it would save them time trying to find out what time it is if they bought a watch

maybe you could say- 'I don't own a watch, but I have heard that there are stores that actually sell them to folks who need to know the time'!

I tell people that I don't own a watch but they can check their cell phone.

I almost always wear a watch, so I can't relate to people thinking I have one on when I don't. But one thing that drives me crazy is when I obviously have my hands full, and a stranger comes up and asks me for the time. I had someone do that to me not long ago while I was holding my toddler, diaper bag, purse, and a shopping bag full of stuff. I told her "I don't know, can't you check your cell phone?" and she said "It's in my purse, I THOUGHT maybe you would tell me since you're wearing a watch!" I just walked off. I can't believe (well actually I can) that she expected me to juggle all my stuff because she didn't want to reach into her purse to pull out her phone.

NEXT TIME YOU ARE ASKED WHAT TIME IT IS, GIVE THEM THE REPLY I USED TO IN THE LATE 60'S (I'M NOT INTO TIME,MAN), I AM SURE THEY WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE. LOL ;)

When they ask you the time, make up a time. Maybe if they're late for something, they won't ask a stranger again.
Okay, maybe that's mean. How about, "I don't know, let's see if we can find a clock."? Then look around stupidly.

I very seldom wear a watch anymore and everyone has a cell phone to check the time.

Maybe you cou simoly have said"If you want the time, go ask someone with a watch on" and walk away. It's polite. Honest, non agressive, get's you out of there fairly quickly w/o anymore interaction with these difficult ppl.
