My oldest son and I have a savings account. It is in his name, but I have access to the funds through an ATM card.
Because it is a savings account, it doesn't have a MasterCard or Visa card logo.
He called me today and asked me if I withdrew a certain amount in a cashiers check. "Of course not" I told him "I would have called you if I was going to do a transaction that large".
My heart started beating hard and I was getting chest pains. My son told me to calm down, not to worry, that he would get to the bottom of it.
This call came on the same day that I had seen 3 mice in my apartment and the exterminator and my new furniture all came at the same time. Got through that okay and then this.
My son called back "They said they're going to look into it and call me back, I'll call you as soon as I hear back".
Time dragged on, the phone rang and my son told me that their was another person with his name, who had a savings account at the branch in a far eastern suburb. Apparently, the person who was verifying the information, after the fact, just looked at the first name in the computer and called my son. My son called our branch, verified that his account was fine.
My question, for tomorrow, when we go to my branch are going to be why wasn't the information verified by ID at the time of the transaction? And, why would the caller not have matched up the account number with the name, before calling.
This was totally uncalled for and just about the last thing I needed this month.

Sorry to hear about the mice, I hope you can get rid of them. What ever outside hole needs to be closed. When we lived in apartment they mowed by the water and drove all the wildlife away and yes, you guessed they came into the apartments. EEEEEEuuuu
The exterminator was the nicest guy. Laid baits, plugged holes even fixed my patio door blind because he saw the strip laying there.
One day, I got a fax with a person's name, SS#, account number, balance and all the other info I needed to empty the $86,000 she had in it to buy a home. The bank was handling the closing.
I called the bank, used her name and other info and asked them to transfer the balance into my personal account. I taped the entire conversation. Just as the guy was about to hit transmit, I stopped him. After giving him a stern talking to, I contacted the main office.
Needless to say, they were red faced. They sent out a "must read memo" that had to be signed by the all employees. It turns out that the bank had not issued a new employee phone book after changing the phone number.
And why did they replace it? It wasn't secure!
Thanks all for your support.
Missy and all - I talked to the people at my branch yesterday and they said that reprimand was given.
and some banks just don't verify identities well! My husband had left a check for my brother-in-law and he went to the bank to cash it. The bank called me to see if they could cash it for the person at the bank. I said, "doesn't he have an id?" She said "No." I said, "Then don't cash it. I don't know who's standing there in front of you!" good grief!!!
I posted a comment earlier but wanted to thank you for posting a comment on one of my latest pieces, The Other Woman.
Glad your situation was resolved right away. Remember, though, people who work have bad days. Perhaps that teller's mom just died, or her son was sick and she was up all night. We need to give each other a break sometimes too.:) Hope you got rid of those mice!
