Last week, when I took my son to the doctor to recheck his pox like spots, still the doctor is at a loss... He has called other doctors, researched online, and even gone through books... Nothing matches this odd spotty phenomenon... The doctor has been swearing it is viral, but no one else is getting it... We go back this week to recheck again... This time, they'll be taking blood, cutting all his spots to culture, and sending him to a pediatric dermatologist...
In a last ditch effort to figure this out myself, I called the vet... Could the cat and kitten have mites??? Would mites bite a human??? The vet being the wonderful man he is, said he wanted to go over them really well and see if anything could be related... So, Saturday morning I took the cats to the vet to be boarded for the weekend... Keep in mind, both the cat and the kitten were given to us by people who were just going to throw them on the street... With the full grown cat, we know he has had veterinary care, but not how long ago... For him, the vet wanted to wait 6 months to give him his vaccinations to be safe... The kitten is too young for them yet...
Ooops, the vet's staff failed to do anything other than put them in the kennels... So Sammy didn't get his vaccinations and neither cat was checked before today... They frontlined both of them when I showed up to get them... The vet was infuriated when he walked into the room to find me sitting there with the kitten who had been there all weekend... He checked him over for mites, fleas, worms, and anything else... Nothing not even a sign of fleas (like flea dirt)... He asked me to come back in the afternoon to pick them up, so he could go over the cat and vaccinate him... This would also give the frontline time to do some of it's spreading, therefore keeping it from getting all over the youngest child...
I picked the cats up to discover they NOW have FLEAS!!! They have been frontlined and had NO signs of fleas earlier this morning... I pulled more than 10 fleas off the kittens face at the vet's office and killed them right there in front of the assistant who failed to do her job. Now I am covered in scratches from the kitten trying to rip my arm off as I picked fleas... I have an angry cat and unhappy kitten... Oh yeah and they have fleas on them wherever they are hiding from me in the house... At least I have hardwood floors, I suppose...
As for my son, it isn't flea bites, mites, or anything related to the cats... Hopefully we will figure it out this week!!! This is week 5 of this and I am getting frustrated, despite his dealing with it so well... The preschool finally let him come back today, but that doesn't refund the $125 I paid for the time he missed... All in all, we are happy it isn't cat related, that the cats are home, and that the little one got to go play with his friends again today!!!
