After weeks of hectic schedules, homework, soccer, scouts, and the who is sick this week game, I have let our bedroom go from untidy to unbearable... Too tired to do much, I kept the kitchen, living room, bathroom, dining room, and kid's rooms up to par... I did the laundry mostly at night when I wasn't tending to all the other needs of the family... What I failed to do was put the laundry away... It is all folded neatly on top of the freezer, which makes it quite a challenge to get into by the way...
Somehow, I am not sure how, but somehow everything in the house has spilled into the master bedroom... I think the kids had a little bit to do with that... The changing of the season was a big contributor as the boxes of winter duds came out, but didn't get unpacked just yet... Then the summer stuff piling up in the clean laundry wasn't getting put into the boxes to go to charity or be stored... On top of that, my husband's work gear was doing the same thing as the seasonal clothing... Finally, the youngest of the family found a treasure box kind of hidden in the bedroom and unpacked it under the bed, unbeknownst to anyone else... Yes he found the Christmas presents I bought earlier this year and tore the packages so he could play with the toys under the bed... I really should have actually hidden the box somewhere else much higher...
Anyways, after debating over gender roles and our responsibilities in this relationship, my husband finally volunteered to help get our room back in order!!! For my manly man, his usual answer is to just donate it all and start over... He has been telling me how easy it would be to tackle the monster of a mess looming over my head for all these weeks... Today he stood up to the challenge and was about to pull his hair out... We are not done yet, but we put in 5 hours together... Pitiful isn't it?!? So far we have gone through all the clothes (packed, unpacked, set aside to donate, and put away), reboxed the salvaged Christmas gifts, cleaned out the closet (which apparently had stuff of his in it from when we moved here 2 years ago), and gone through all the toys and children's belongings that had made their way to our room, and boxed up the toys that have been taken away from the children over time (tossed somewhere out of sight and mind)... Best of all, we have a total of 6 boxes and 1 trash bag of items to donate to charity...
Who knew we had so much stuff??? We sure as heck didn't... So thanks to teamwork we managed to accomplish a lot today and reevaluate together what we "need"... If one of us cleaned the room alone, we'd disagree on how much was truly there...
Now that we have taken a break to spend time with the kids, eaten dinner, and sidetracked ourselves with television and Gather of course, we are putting off the inevitable... The room has to be finished before we can go to bed... What is left is all on top of the bed... There is only 1 couch, so someone will be quite tired if we fail to complete the task...
In a nutshell, I want to run outside and scream hoorays and halleluyas that my sweet man actually helped out in this massive undertaking... Oh and that Oh my gosh IT'S ALMOST DONE!!!
Can you tell I am killing time here... If I stall long enough, maybe he'll fall asleep on the couch and not realize how many pairs of shoes I actually have... ;)~
