I love how the child's mind works!!! My children are so hilarious when they tell stories about their day or change the bedtime story around on you!!!
With the eldest having trouble with his penmanship and having to write letters for his class, we found him sitting and staring at a blank page doing nothing... He did not know what he was supposed to write... My husband and I tried to give him some ideas or something to start with... That failed miserably...
I came up with the idea to let the kids cut up old magazines so that they could use pictures from them... It worked great for the middle one learning to use scissors... We took all the pictures they liked, cut them out, and put them in a box...
Now when we have to practice our handwriting or are just plain "bored", we pull out the box and they pick out a picture... They get to glue it to paper and write a story about the picture they have chosen...
It has been great with improving penmanship in a fun way and fostering their creative sides as well!!!!

cut out shapes of paper dolls from the cardboard that the
cereal came in and then we would cut out different dresses
and stuff from a catalog that was fun time and dress up the
figures Momma made with the things we cut out.
