My silly kitty....

I have a kitten that is going on 9 weeks old. We got him from a family, he wasn't a stray. But now that he has been here for almost 3 weeks now he does something really weird. He is trying to nurse off of our other kitten (she's 5 months). He is so loud that he woke me up this morning! Anyways....what can I do? Does this mean he misses his mom? His mom was mad when I took him away!

Anybody???

Hey!!! You changed your icon!!! I like it, but man it will be hard to keep up with you now! I'm used to the other one.

I have no idea, Victoria 1. Very strange. We have a cat that was only 8 weeks old when we got her and she still sucks on things. We'll catch her sucking on blankets and fleece shirts and stuff, anything soft. My theory has always been that she was too young to be taken away from her mom. We got her at the pound.

I've seen other cats do that, as a result of being weaned too quickly, so maybe that was the problem?
The cats I've known that have done it grew out of it, eventually.

I have seen this with many cats!! Even when they get older they will do this! EVEN on a dog, if the get along! Don't worry about it! As to why.. I think it's just comfort!

Our bichon frise tried to nurse from my husband when she was a puppy!

Bonnie...I can't even concentrate anymore...OMG that was very funny....I will be smiling about that one all day!!

SOrry Victoria...I needed something female...I was getting sick of being called a guy...LOL...do they not know my name is Victoria??? hey that gives me a great idea!! LOL

I just hope it doesn't mean he was taken from his mom too early...he really seems upset lately...I thought that would happen when he first got home not a couple weeks later??

OMG, Bonnie...that is so hilarious!

Taylor, I'm guessing your kitty was weaned too early. 6 weeks is very young...in my experience, 8 weeks is typically when it's safe to take them away from mommy. I'm not sure what you can do about it but I'm sure there are lots of websites about how to care for a kitty that's been weaned too early. I would do a google search.

Sometimes they outgrow this behavior. Others do it all their lives. He was taken away from his mom too early. Just let him get his comfort where he can. Give him things that you don't mind him using.

Fuzzy is four months old and still does this with anything soft like Victoria said. I think they grow out of it eventually. It must be comforting to them because Fuzzy does this most when he goes to bed at night. He likes our furry blanket.

Of course his mom was mad. He wasn't ready. I think six weeks is too early to be weaned. Vets say 8 weeks minimum up to 12 weeks. That said, what he's doing now is normal and he will outgrow it eventually. Give him lots of love and post some more pics of him ;-)

Our William Oranges does this to my DH -- sucks on his shoulder and kneads and purrs -- it's cute although he ends up with a wet shirt as a result :-) I was always told this meant they were weaned too early and that some cats grow out of it and some don't. We used to have a Siamese who did this with his favorite blanket his entire life -- he was rather silly also :-)

That could be the problem, but maybe he just wants some attention. It's cuddle time.
