The neighbors that grew up with him. His guy who is taking cooking lessons with his girl friend.
The best is his Best Man Ryan Fetzer who is mentioned in Chapter 10. Who says that Geoffrey didn't quite portray his good points.
Geoffrey talks about his Love of History and his love for telling the difference between the poor and rich during this era. The high society plantation owners, the slaves and the poor white trash.
How Northern property owners would sometimes harbor slaves. Only to be brought to trial if found out. It was a common practice for northerners on the border to help the black fugitives. This is the what the story is about. About all what happens in a town in Charleston when a Northern man is brought to trial for harboring a slave. In the first couple chapters you get a look at a very unusual town and it’s people.
While reading one of his excerpts Geoffrey reflected on a touchy subject and one of my favorite quotes of the night.
"When does someone who was your friend change to become someone you whip?"
This quote is about that the High Society plantation kids grew up side by side and played with the slaves children. It was quite a common practice. Who then grew up to be the slaves of the plantation Children.
Well if you want to know more you have to read the book!
Thank You Geoffrey for an outstanding night and a great book!!
We wish you much success!
