The New York Times wrote that Senator Obama's speech in Clinton, Iowa was his "his most extensive plan yet for winding down the war in Iraq."

Senator Obama will establish an international working group dedicated to addressing the Iraqi refugee crisis, increase aid for refugees by $2 billion, work with Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt to boost access to social services for refugees, and also work to create safe haven for internally displaced Iraqis. He'll also work with the international community to prevent genocide and to hold potential war criminals accountable.
This is how we turn the page in Iraq.

The late evangelist Lester Sumrall, who did extensive missionary work throughout the world, and whose descendants carry on that work have the same philosophy.
Give a man a fish he eats for a day
Teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime.
Yes Senator Obama, you're on point.
"This is how we turn the page in Iraq."
He honestly thinks these nations will assist a nation that has such self resource? Economics is not the problem since they have oil to sell and can easily rebuild but they need peace and a solid hand to stop internal and external forces from fighting.
I like the fact that for once, somone has determined that Only 2 billion be allotted for this, and I am not being sarcastic. However, because monitoring the money has been one of the biggest rip-offs ever to be allowed, a very intense and loyal commission, to observe the money would have to be set-up. A permanent audit if you please. Why this is so difficult, and has been in the past eludes me. Of course I am sad about the loss of life and the thousands of Iraqi people who have had to flee, but where are their Soldiers to help our Military to do the job? It seems to me, with no economy to be found, to support the people, that a program through their own government, much like Roosevelts who put people to work planting trees, should be implemented. To give the people a sense of pride in re-building Iraq and the surrounding area. I have been disappointed in it's Governments policies to take care of it's own people with so many American dollars going there, so many American lives lost, and altered forever, while they have gone off on Vacation. You would think they would work tirelessly for the New Iraq.
If the problems with so many sects are so difficult, what can we possible say that relates to real progress, with only American contractors making progress in building? Are we also training plumbers, electricians, etc? Internally speaking, how are they ever going to live there, without our protection if they do not really step up, do it themselves, and take advantage of the decent assistance availible. If they continue to cry, still to dangerous, we will be there forever. The cost of this war, with many not able to buy enough food for a week here, is staggering. Recently, one day ago to be exact, one dozen eggs in my small Ozark town was $2.09! The reason, transportation, and I am on a fixed income. No help for me here. Nothing for my Christmas, nothing for my birthday, and really nothing for New Years. The cost of living raise the disabled recieved was ridiculous. If transportation is a problem, and with the oil fiasco as it is, you are going to have a terrible problem here, and the ridiculous guidlines for people to get help here, in this country is mind-boggling, and not helpful. You will soon have to give food away here. I still work on the "Ticket to Work" program, and I just got an electric bill for $197.00. I receive $599.00 a month, minus my insurance deductibles, which are both Federal. What about us?
Realizing the initial goals for our being there have slyly changed week per week with all the Military indictments for Contract fraud coming round, dating back to 2001, what chance does even our money have of going to the proper place?
I am happy Mr. Obama has come with even a thought that may help the situation there. And by the way, as a voting member of this America, our home, and the home of my children and grandchildren. I tried to join here several times, to keep up with both of our major Democratic candidates. I have yet to be accepted. I want to know why. I have worked all my life, supported my children on my own, kept my mother for six years. And I am not worthy? Please explain. Ellen B
