It's a close race and you want Hillary to drop out before all the votes are counted to insure your candidate will win. If after all the votes are counted Hillary has the lead in the overall popular vote, it would be just as legitimate to suggest that Obama be the one to drop out even if he still has a lead in elected delegates. How would you feel if Hillary supporters made that argument?
Jim G.
The only way either candidate will win the nomination on the first convention ballot is if one of them drops out If you think Hillary has on a 5% chance of getting the nomination you are the one who is out of touch with reality. Your statement, "Hillary just lies, Period." also reveals your lack of objectivity. If I felt that way about a candidate, I certainly would not want the candidate saying my candidate would be better than the Republican candidate because it would in my opinion be a lie. Do you approve of politicians lying if a lie is told in support your candidate?
A hard fought battle for the nomination is not going to bring down the whole party unless the loser and/or his or her supporters let that happen. That is something neither Hillary or the vast majority of her supporters will let happen if Obama wins the nomination. We are realists and the idea of even four more years of Republican and Bush policies is a reality we will do our part to avoid, Obama is not a poor choice for President he is simply not the candidate we choose to support for the Democratic nomination.
Obama supporters are also fanning the flame of division by claiming everything she she and her supporter say is an example of dirty politics, insulting the integrity of her supporters and defending his errors and trying to turn them into virtues.
There are times when I think I understand what Obama wants to accomplish better than those who claim to be his followers and supporters if they really wanted unity they would not demean those who support Hillary or McCain by calling them uneducated or racists or claim that the only reason a women supports Hillary are doing so because she is a female or we should "rot in hell" for finding Obama less than perfect or claiming Hillary and her supporters would desert the Party if Obama wins the nomination.
Whether or not Obama was really being an elitist with his comment on small towns is a matter of opinion, but I do think that resentment of the elitist attitude of many of his supporters is rubbing of on him.
A college graduates has a reason to be proud of having gotten their Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate but that does not make them better or even better educated than someone without a degree. One of the best educated people I have ever known never got beyond eighth grade, but having learned to read he continued to try to expand on his knowledge even after Alzheimer's made it impossible to remember what he what he had already learned. He stood in sharp contrast to some college grads I have known who I doubt have picked a a work of non-fiction that was not work related since they graduated.
Hillary supporters have made the suggestion that Obama should drop out. I feel OK with it. Don't take it personally, I just called it the audaciousness of audacity.
On popular voter - it's simply not how our system works. It works with delegates proportioned based on population. The big states have more delegates as a results. It takes 15 Idahos to get a CA. Therefore you can't come back and say popular vote. If that was how it works Al Gore would be president. When people talk about popular vote, they have to understand that they are suggesting a bending of the rules. The rules of the democratic party and republican party for that matter, works with delegates. In the general, electoral college.
That said, Obama will have more popular vote. Then, all of you Hillary supporters will put that aside and talk about MI and FL. Does not matter, they always bring up something else.
On March 6th, the Clinton campaign released a memo saying it was a race for delegates, not popular vote.
